Forecasting technologies of the future, the Arthur C. Clarke case

Innovations, ideas or patents for sustainable development. Decrease in energy consumption, reduction of pollution, improvement of yields or processes ... Myths or reality about inventions of the past or the future: the inventions of Tesla, Newman, Perendev, Galey, Bearden, cold fusion ...

Forecasting technologies of the future, the Arthur C. Clarke case

by Christophe » 02/01/11, 14:25

Unlike "our" national Paco Rabanne (cf. https://www.econologie.com/forums/introducti ... 10315.html ), Arthur C. Clarke saw him fairly right ... He had in particular predicted GPS and satellite TV.

I'm talking about it because I re-watched 2001 the odyssey of Kubrick ... filmed in 1968 and still pretty current, except maybe fashion and hairstyles but it is cyclical so it will probably come back! : Mrgreen:

Dear Andy,

Odd that we should have crossed in the post! I am afraid that I am too much out of touch with current communication theory and technique to provide much of value for you. (In any event, all my war-time experience was in radar, not radio.)

As you may know, my main interest in this subject is in the use of satellite relays, which I think may revolutionize the pattern of world communications. To the best of my knowledge, I was the first to suggest this possibility (see “Extraterrestrial Relays”, Wireless World, October 45). By another odd coincidence I've just sent my agent an article on these lines, entitled “The Billion Dollar Moon”, giving my latest view on this subject. My general conclusions are that perhaps in 30 years the orbital relay system may take over all the functions of existing surface networks and provide others quite impossible today. For example, the three stations in the 24-hour orbit could provide not only an interference and censorship-free global TV service for the same power as a single modern transmitter, but could also make possible a position-finding grid whereby anyone on earth could locate himself by means of a couple of dials on an instrument about the size of a watch. (A development of Decca and transistorisation.) It might even make possible world-wide person-to-person radio with automatic dialling. Thus no-one on the planet need ever get lost or become out of touch with the community, unless he wanted to be. I'm still thinking about the social consequences of this!
But as for details of frequencies and powers, I'll have to leave that to the experts to work out; I'll get on with my science fiction and wait to say “I told you so!”

Sincerely,
(Signed, 'Arthur')
Arthur c clarke

PS Any chance of seeing you in London? I leave for NY on 28 August.

ps: ah I didn't know there are 2 other odyssey:

# 2061: Odyssey Three, 1988 (2061, Odyssey three)
# 3001: The Final Odyssey, 1997 (3001, The Final Odyssey)

Very interesting, I did not know and good to know, this view of realistic anticipation, which he could see coming to fruition during his lifetime, unlike Jules Vernes !!

Overwhelmed, swept away, Arthur:
Impressive but so intrusive: this satellite can scan the interior of your home at any time

Image

This new satellite from the American company Capella Space can observe any room in your house and take a high-resolution photo of it at any time. The launch of the Capella-2 satellite into the atmosphere is a big step forward in space technology, but also a great risk to privacy.

The Capella-2 camera and sensor system is simply remarkable. The satellite uses a system called Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), a technology used by NASA since the 1970s, to detect the Earth's surface through the densest clouds. This radar sends a 9,65 GHz radio signal to Earth and interprets the signal on its return, using this data to form a visual.

It could also fuel the kind of surveillance that is the subject of panic attacks from privacy specialists. The Capella-2's signal system is so powerful that it can really see through walls under many circumstances. And anyone can get these images at any time, without having to justify themselves.

Organoids!

Cells on chips...

ANSES and CEA partnership,
CEA project, organoids.

Participation of ANSES, among others Climate, Pollution, exposure to waves....

Exposure to Waves?

Testimony of an EHS (ElectroHyperSensitive) during an MRI:
- EM inductions on the neuronal visual cortex, appearance of very technical images
(integrated circuit plate comprising chips connected to living cells fixed on the smart card, powered by Fiber signals
Optical, living cells are responsible for "translating" light signals into electrical signals to the chips...
output signals directed to 108-contact ROUND connectors, keyed, specially manufactured for AeroSpatial, etc.)

ONGOING experiments on humans, by MRI, without the patients' knowledge...for a banal follow-up of Medical Imaging...

Future humans connected...to the brain, by Waves.

From this MRI, this EHS declares receiving through Retinal Images, very detailed images of “coded messages” in an unknown language,
yet translatable by GoogleTranslate.

Language used, yet never learned, Catalan...
The content of the “messages”, after translation,
seems to be exchanges between "groups of men of action"....
