The profession of herbalist, soon back in France?

Does the profession of herbalist come out of the ground?

The profession is banned in France since 1941. A senator has introduced a bill to recreate it. But the Order of Pharmacists fiercely opposes it, even leaving apothecaries behind ...

Marshmallow root, ideally known to unravel frizzy hair, and nettle, known for its restorative virtues, are the two best selling plants by Julien Duchesne. If this kind sexagenarian can write in large print the word "herbalist", above the name of his shop Ormenis in Paris, it is because he is a pharmacist and that "the law is blurred".

A profession abolished, a diploma deleted

In France, since a law published September 11 1941, under Vichy, the profession of herbalist officially no longer exists. The apothecaries, who considered since the Middle Ages that herbalists walked on their flowerbeds selling curative plant compositions, have obtained from the Pétain government that their "competitors" eat dandelions by root ...

Because by this same law, the diploma validating the skills in herbal medicine, which was created in 1803 under Napoleon, was also deleted. Only those who had obtained the certificate before the promulgation of the text are still allowed to practice until their death. At the time, they were about 4500. Today, there would be only one, which exceeded the 90 spring.
The reserved area of pharmacists

Since this law, the monopoly of the sale of medicinal plants is therefore the responsibility of pharmacists, some of whom have appropriated the term "herbalist". By "medicinal plants", the pharmacopoeia (which is the official national compendium of medicines) means "plant drugs that possess medicinal properties". There are 339 in all, validated by the French Agency for Health Safety of Health Products. Only pharmacists are officially authorized to advise customers on the plants to consume and in what form (herbal tea or powder) to treat everyday disorders.

"France is one of the only European countries not to offer recognized training in herbalism," said Thierry Thévenin, chairman of the Syndicat des simples - the other name for medicinal plants - in 2010, L'Express. "The market is controlled by pharmacists, who intend to maintain their monopoly, and by mass distribution, which wants to keep control of the sector of food supplements," he explained.

A particularly juicy sector: it represented in 2002, worldwide, some 60 000 million dollars (45 600 million euros), with an increase of 10 to 20% of the volume each year in Europe, according to a study of the Convention on international trade in endangered species of wild fauna and flora. Yet, "often, these plants would be much cheaper and often more effective in raw form," reads a bill tabled in the Senate last July that aims to "create a diploma and organize the profession of herbalist ".

Indeed, it is a story of big money and private hunting. The "sick" is not taken into consideration! Why would it interfere with HIS health elsewhere?

It is no use to succeed in life, what it takes is to miss his death.
