Junk food: In the jungle of the Supermarket. Tonight on Arte

by Christophe » 06/10/11, 15:29

Another "appetizing" documentary on industrial junk food, tonight on Arte Thema (it was Thema Tuesday?)

Food industry powders and potions

THEMA: "In the supermarket jungle"

The agrifood sector is deploying inventive treasures to lure the consumer. But behind a misleading advertisement hide pesticides, sugars and additives often harmful to health ... What do we really eat?

Presentation of the film

At a time when food production has become a high-tech, low-cost process, are foods as healthy and natural as the food industry would have us believe? It is through false advertising that brands persuade consumers of the alleged virtues of their health products.
Not only are these rarely proven by serious analyzes, but when science gets involved, its conclusions are cold in the back: harmful synthetic vitamins at too high a dose, resurgence of allergic reactions, sugar addiction ... Legislative devices also allow farmers to multiply pesticides without real control.
Despite the protests of consumer defense associations, legislators often put industry and its lobbies before food security for citizens.

Documentary by Eberhard Rühle (Germany, 2011, 1h)

Most likely available on Arte + 7 this evening.

It's a German documentary. It is not to make chauvinism but if the Germans are "so green on paper" they do much worse than us question junk food ... surely (among other things) a question of history of strong chemical industry beyond the Rhine!
