Cosmetics: towards the exit of parabens?

For almost ten years, parabens have been controversial but remain authorized by European regulations. The large cosmetics companies are on the warpath and do not plan to abandon these conservatives, while small and medium-sized companies in the sector are looking for the means, financial and technical, to replace them.

Parabens, chemical compounds, are used as preservatives for their anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties, in foods, medicines, and of course in cosmetics. For the latter, parabens are regulated by the European "cosmetic" directive, which lists them as preservatives of preparations (creams, shower gel, shampoos, etc.). Ethyl-, methyl-, propyl-, butylparaben and their iso (isobutyl and isopropyl) are therefore authorized within the limits of use initially fixed at 0,4% of the product composition for a single paraben, and at 0,8% for a mixture of parabens.

From 2004, these parabens, known to be low endocrine disruptors, are put on the spot following new scientific studies reviewed by the European Scientific Committee for Consumer Safety (CSAS). If the Federation of European Cosmetics Manufacturers (COLIPA) has not published its studies, the CSAS has made these 6 last years no less than 5 opinions on the scientific database and has revised upwards the toxicity of two parabens. In its last opinion of December 2010, the Committee requests that the permissible concentrations for propyl and butylparaben be reduced by more than half.

"Unwanted" parabens

We replace this paraben with other preservatives, in fact very toxic products for germs and molds, so also very toxic for us, also be alive, in fact!
example by a hyper-powerful neurotoxic at very low dose, a few parts per million!
https://www.econologie.com/forums/post203602.html#203602

Since bacteria are more resistant than us (there is always a bacterium that resists the worst conditions, even in the water of a nuclear pool), it is almost impossible to find a good conservative that is not dangerous for us.

So you have to give up any conservative besides simplistic products of life with a small efficiency, lemon, orange, etc.

Read also the book on endocrine disruptors and other poisons:
My Daily Poison
from MM Robin editions Arte- the discovery.

Paraben and Triclosan, found in soaps and other cosmetic products, increase the risk of allergies in children

exposure to chemicals such as triclosan or paraben, used as antibacterials or preservatives and present in soaps, toothpaste, as well as many cosmetic products used on the skin, promote in children the appearance of food allergies and environmental shows a study published in the journal The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.

Triclosan is present in soaps, deodorants, toothpastes, and many consumer products are impregnated with triclosan: cooking utensils, toys, bedding, trash bags. It decreases bacterial contamination on hands and treated products. Triclosan is one of the endocrine disruptors. It is a chlorinated compound, antibacterial broad spectrum. It is found in products of brands Chanel, Persavon, Williams, Leader price, Carrefour, Mennen ... (for an exhaustive list see here)

Parabens are used as preservatives in cosmetics, medicines and foods because of their antibacterial and antifungal properties. Endocrine disruptors also, they could activate estrogen receptors, inducing a possible action on fertility and estrogen-dependent tumors, such as breast cancer. The 3 may 2011, the National Assembly has passed a bill banning the use of parabens in France but its implementation is delayed. Parabens are found in solar lotions from La Roche-Posay (L'Oreal), Nivea champoings, Elsève (L'Oreal) champions, after-shampoos, scrubs from Yves Rocher, body milks, massage creams, lip balms, etc. (for a list of cosmetics with and without parabens, this is here)
