After the Civic Hybrid and the Insight, launched in 2008, the car manufacturer Honda is adding a third model to its catalog of hybrid cars. At the Detroit auto show, which opened to the press on Monday, the Japanese firm unveiled the final version of its CR-Z hybrid coupe. A way to demonstrate that sports vehicles are compatible with low-emission propulsion. Launch in 2010.
Unveiled in the form of prototypes at the latest international motor shows, the CR-Z finally arrives in its production version. Less futuristic than the previous concepts, this model remains a real sports coupe, with its aggressive front end and an aerodynamic roofline that slopes gently towards the tailgate.
30 cm shorter than the Insight (around 4,09 m), the CR-Z has a four-seat cabin where the two rear seats can be folded down with a single control to increase the volume of the luggage compartment.
Technically, this coupe embeds Honda's IMA petrol-electric engine. This parallel hybridization system is based here on a 4-liter 1,5-cylinder engine and a 14-horsepower electric motor. Associated with a 6-speed manual gearbox, unique on a hybrid according to Honda, the engine delivers a total power of 124 horsepower.
Honda has not yet disclosed the performance of the CR-Z (speed, acceleration, etc.), but its energy balance is known. On average, it consumes 5 liters of fuel per 100 km and releases 117 g of CO2 / km (according to the Japanese homologation cycle).
It is therefore eligible in France for the bonus of 2.000 euros granted for the purchase of a low-emission hybrid. The CR-Z also receives 8 LEDs for the daytime running lights, a dashboard with 3D structure on two levels (a dark upper part and a light gray lower zone), and offers the driver three driving modes depending of his desires: sporty driving, economical driving or a balance of both
