NiCd battery replacement by lead batt?

by Exceed » 02/06/07, 22:31

Hello,

Well, I'm working on one thing ...
I have the ambition to want to buy a VE (ax) with maybe the HS batteries.
I would like to know why can we not replace the original SAFT NiCd batteries by professional lead batteries with surprising characteristics .... 2100 cycles at 80% discharges and 4000 to 30% .... (Surette series 500)
How the electronics of vehicles behave in the case of a replacement by lead batteries instead of NiCd ....
What are the essential differences that would make it not work ???
Etc ..

Thank you for your informed opinions.

A + Serge.

:? It is indeed feasible but performance and especially autonomy will no longer have anything to do with the origin ... : Cry:

The performanes and the autonomy of the ax are among the best of what we can find in France ... The vehicles produced later do not do better except the very confidential Kangoo ER.

I don't know if you have in mind a car with HS batteries or a car without batteries ...
On a car with "HS batteries" it is sometimes possible to regenerate them by subjecting them to complete discharge cycles and if certain elements are dead, to replace only those. :D

If the batteries are missing, following for example, the termination of the Crédipar maintenance contract, specialists agree that the car has no value ...

I know a VOLTA that its owner has equipped with lead-acid starter batteries ... and which changes them every 2 or 3 years maximum ...

Nicd SAFT batteries last more than 8 years. Some AX still run on their original batteries ....

I didn't know the batteries SOUR
It's been the first time I've heard about it since I started talking about it ... I don't have an opinion. :?:

For vehicle electronics, only the charger stage is affected by the change of batteries. Chargers are sophisticated elements that heat up and must ensure optimum longevity for the elements ...

Many specialized sites exist in the USA. In France the reference site isvehiculeselectriques.free.fr.
The professional of reference specialized in the electric car is in the Bordeaux suburbs, are the Establishments Fossard. They are ultra competent and of good advice ...

My god .... a VE bible !!!
Great, thank you !

Yes I have an ax in sight for the symbolic euro with hs battery .... I don't know more for the moment .... I know the VE site by heart ... but to be entitled to technical info for what I'm considering, it's not easy ...

"

Do you believe that the original charger can charge surette batteries or other professional brands?

Hello,

Surrette battery info:
http://www.dcbattery.com/rollssurrettemarine.html

Look at the features and tell me what you think ..... especially the 5000 series .... it's still impressive ... right?

Good reading.

:? without developing this, it seems to me that the nickel cadnium batteries and everything else are far superior to simple lead batteries even current in terms of autonomy

if not the best it seems to me
are ion-polymer batteries but very expensive but at maintenance levels (temp / recharge) -duration of use-replacement it may come back cheaper in the long term but I have never tested

Sure if we compare with lead batteries from babou .... I agree with you!
But what does it make to compare with Surrette batteries?

Characteristics of the original Saft STM 5-100Mr batteries (Nicd):

Characteristics of Rolls Surrette batteries:

I am not an expert on the question, but it seems to me that lead batteries are still larger, heavier and less efficient than NiCd batteries.
Otherwise Saft is a very famous brand in the industrial world, so might you take the same batteries?

What is the price difference for the same power between a complete NiCd pack and a lead pack?

Then you have to relate the price of the batteries to the price that an Ax would cost you in petrol or diesel over the lifetime of the batteries.
My 1,5d Ax consumed 5,6l / 100 at the time while still driving at full speed;) (yes it was the time where we could still drive fast)
But an Ax not too pushed must consume a little less than 5l / 100Km ...

I think with lead batteries instead of Ni Cd or other, you will just be able to get your bread with your AX: the volume capacity ratio is around 4, same for the capacity / weight ratio .
So, if you want to sacrifice half of your passenger compartment and almost all your weight / power ratio to get lead batteries go for it.
(not counting the problems with the weight of the vehicle, its structure, its suspension, etc ...)

I would be offered this kind of deal:

1) I would take the vehicle (I refuse only the blows of sticks)
2) I would take qq months if necessary to find Ni Cd or Ni MH at factory prices.

Hello

Yes for the weight difference, there is about 30% more from what I could see ...
For a complete SAFT pack, count around 7000 € .... you can only find monoblocks to be adapted then in the special boxes ...
For the price of the Rolls .... I haven't done the math ... not yet!
I'm waiting for info ...
But if we can replace the NiCd batt with lead by losing 10 or 20% of autonomy, that's fine with me !!! I usually go 30 terminals per day.
I know I'm boring but I didn't understand the difference between,
Monobloc 6V 100Ah NiCd and Monobloc 6V 100Ah Lead .... who wants to do a little drawing ????? : Cheesy:
100Ah, doesn't that mean 10A for 10 hours, isn't it the same in both cases?

I found the ball of the day !!!!Image
