A week to reduce waste ... And expenses!
In these difficult times, where crisis and global warming preoccupy the minds, the week of waste reduction, whose third edition begins on Saturday, deserves a spotlight. Because sorting your waste is good, but reducing it at source is even better. For the planet ... As for his wallet! Daily demonstration with the Econology family. Any resemblance to reality ...

"The best waste is that which is not produced". A motto that Econologists apply on a daily basis. And that could be the watchword of this week of waste reduction, which takes place from November 22 to 30. A European directive, dating from June, also insists on the need to reduce waste at source ... Understand, from the consumer.
Among the Econologists, the magic of prevention has already operated. When the family goes shopping, they have already adopted new behaviors.
Monsieur, for example, avoids buying bottled water, preferring at worst a packaging in bottles, at best tap water. In general, it always opts for large quantities of packaging and at the same time bans individual packaging (these compotes, for example, which children love but which cost much more per kilo ...) and overpacks. Precisely, bulk products often prove to be cheaper and more environmentally friendly. More and more supermarkets are offering the sale of pasta, rice, coffee or pulses in this form. Something to delight the ideal family. For meat and cheese, Madame prefers a chat with the saleswoman of the combs rather than prepackaged products. Ditto for her fruits and vegetables, which she chooses in bulk rather than packaged. To the long list of disposable products (diapers, handkerchiefs, paper towels, dishes, cutlery, pens, razors ...), the model family prefers washable, rechargeable and reusable. The wipe, in all its forms, is therefore prohibited. At the cash desk, the Econologists have not forgotten their reusable bags and other shopping bags in the car, but present them open to the cashier, before filling them.
And when they return home, the family always follows the same logic: it sends emails rather than letters, has stuck the Stop pub sticker on its mailbox, limits the use of objects that do not work on the mains and otherwise, use rechargeable batteries, browse the flea markets for second-hand products, make yogurts, laundry, compost ... Enough to make the drudgery of the garbage out less tiring! And satisfy, at the same time, ADEME (environment and environmental management agency) whose key word is "awareness". Test operations are also regularly carried out to determine the impact of the ten actions recommended by the public establishment on the weight and volume of waste (the community of communes of Bapaume will start its own in January). But just by applying five of its gestures daily, we were able to reduce the volume of waste in some places by 28%. A reduction at source which however has its limits ... Without the efforts of manufacturers!
Finally we are all from the same family?
