Betty box, Trier, to make money?

by toto65 » 13/01/08, 12:45

Bonjour à tous
Do you know the Betty box?
It is a system that pays you for your packaging waste.
The rates: http://www.betty-box.com/renum.htm

Presentation:
http://www.betty-box.com/video.htm

It's interesting, isn't it?
Is there an equivalent in Europe?

in Belgium and France, surely not, we are in fact remunerated indirectly, the money collected by the public authorities thanks to selective collections and container parks (recycling center) used to finance the costs of waste disposal and recycling. It's always less tax.

It's a really interesting concept. Their video is pretty well done. On the other hand the music of porn film which goes in the background fears a max :)

That said, it's really not bad in the economic genre, in the sense that it's good both for the environment and for the portfolio.

It reminds me of the case of this commune where they weigh the weight of the garbage intended for the incinerator and establish the bill for each according to that. Suddenly, the trash cans are equipped with a key to prevent a rascal coming to get rid of his trash cans at the neighbor's.

elephant: What you say may be true in principle, but in practice, I know that the town where I live pays to get rid of all its recyclable waste. She pays less at home than if it goes all the way, but she still pays for the treatment. Suddenly it is véolia & co that gets paid to recover valuable materials, and that gets paid when they are resold to industries.

The substance of the idea is good but for the implementation I simply doubt because there are too many cheaters in our world ...

And as sam and elephant say: weighing them down, and setting their tax proportionally to their mass would have the same effect, right? This is what is done in Belgium (see container park report) without having to pay people (other than by "bonus" on garbage taxes) ...

Uh I don't understand your question because the address is French, right? http://www.betty-box.com/localisation1.htm

Ah, maybe you mean if there is one in operation?

I wanted to ask you if you would have heard, or read something similar as a concept in the rest of Europe or in the world.

I think it's unique in the world

Weak points:
Decrease in the income of communities that resell their recycled waste.
Less awareness of reducing waste at the consumer level.
Example: I can buy 6 cans anyway, I would make money by sorting.

Highlights:
The individual is more of an actor in sorting.
Fewer intermediaries, the consequence of recycling is concrete, visible to the individual.
More motivating for refractory to recycling. Other mentalities would be motivated.

Personal conclusion
I think it's an excellent principle. very few communities are remunerated by recycling. (A by Lyon? From other sources?)
Recycling ¨ should be very widely developed, and this could be a very interesting lever.

For info, Mélina BOCHEREAU's powerpoint on the waste we pay by weight.
The picture of recycling in Europe is interesting.
3% for Portugal 28% for France.
Can do better right?

The powerpoint: (it is in English)
