Laser to remove self-adhesive labeling of fruit and vegetables

Swedish supermarkets have replaced sticky labels with laser marking for several years

The humble fruit sticker may seem like an unlikely cause for environmental concern, but removing it from the products could save huge amounts of plastic, energy, and CO2 emissions.
The mark is invisible once the skin is removed and does not affect the shelf life or food quality.

“By using a natural mark on all organic avocados we sell in a year, we will save 200 km (135 miles) of 30 cm wide plastic. It's small but I think it adds up, ”says Peter Hagg, manager of the CIA business unit.

Laser technology also creates less than 1% of the carbon emissions needed to produce a sticker of similar size. https://www.theguardian.com/sustainable ... l-branding

To manage to present a technical evolution which allows savings to traders as an "ecological" advance, it is good classic marketing ... As if the fruits needed a label ... : roll:

Indeed, this is often what makes me give up buying (rarely) certain products, even organic, even French in the supermarket.

If labels don't allow it, what would a laser tattoo do?

Labels are often on the packaging. Where a tattoo would do without.

I was thinking of bananas (recommended for people on a diet) which are systematically provided with these labels which I have to make every effort to remove :frown: before throwing them in my garden ...
