Do Nickel Zinc Rechargeable Batteries Have a Future?

by superDL » 26/10/09, 13:32

Hello,

The company PowerGenix in the US continues to claim that Nickel Zinc batteries are a solution for the future that it sells however with little success it seems. A little shot of Google and there is a small Parisian box called SCPS who seems to believe it too but obviously not the potential users who continue to prefer the NiCd, NiMH and Lithium since this company has still not start the production of battery although it claims that its solution is ready for a few years!
So, good news or intox? What do the electrochemists of the forum ?

What about Zinc Silver put forward in the US by ZPower and also found on the SCPS website? The Apple brand seemed to be interested but nothing more! Yet if we look more closely, there is perhaps a serious competitor lithium that is the subject of regular criticism related to its safety or the availability of lithium!

Hello and welcome to Econology SuperDL!

The plug of these batteries is very interesting, but the value weight / watts is different from that given on the site:

http://www.powergenix.com/service.php

Specific Energy (15 Discharge Amp) 60Wh / kg for 200 charges

For the nickel-metal hydride it is 30-80 Wh / kg for 250 has 1000 charges

The one who started this company is a former managing director of Lithium Technology.

I have serious doubts about the guy's claims.

Notes that GM's EV1 which has been proven for reliability uses Nickel-Metal of 55Wh / kg with a range of 121 to 250 km per charge.

Stepping behind sometimes can strengthen friendship.
Criticism is good if added to some compliments.
