Generator - voltage to be identified

by matthys » 25/01/09, 23:53

Hello everybody
I have a small generator (car wiper motor). I would like to use it to power a battery via a small wind turbine. However when I connect my generator to a drill I measure a voltage of maximum 2 volts. Is this normal? Not knowing what type of generator I have, I made a photo Image
Thank you for your answers.

Well yes, it's normal.
it's an engine, not a generator.
if it is a 12V motor (wiper), I am not surprised that in generator, it provides not more than 2V.
so little chance that it works connected to your wind turbine.

Hello
at its nominal speed (I think more than 1000 rpm) in genes it must provide you with 12 v.
it is a continuous motor with permanent magnets so its reversibility must be total ...

Hello
open it to see if there are two permanent magnets in the stator
If so, rewind it, wedge it in a vice and plant a drill in the axis and rotate it, plug a 12 volt light on the wires.
Normally there are 3 lines on these motors for low speed?

yes sorry, I meant in operation with the wind turbine, ie at lower speed, the voltage will never reach 12V

atension the wiper motors are at 2 speed: it is necessary to measure the tension in 1 wire and the mass

between the 2 wires there is only the voltage difference between the 2 speeds

it is the low speed wire which gives the best performance of the engine: the high speed wire is connected to a coal which does not use the engine in an optimum way: it turns faster but the performance is not good
