Linux Boot: Grub Error 17, Solution and Resolution in Linux

by Christophe » 23/11/08, 12:38

If after installing Linux in multiboot you get error 17 by GRUB at boot, either you can repair with windows with the fixmbr command line (not tested but apparently it works), or more "pro" you can do it with Linux , with a LiveCD and by following the procedure: http://www.cepcasa.info/parted/recup1.html#5%B0_grub (thanks NLC)

code: Select all

sudo grub

code: Select all

find /boot/grub/stage1

 (hd0,5)

Does that mean that grub is on / dev / sda6?

Then (if I understand correctly):

code: Select all

setup (hd0) (hd0,5)

It makes me a thing similar to the image of the link, only difference, the 15 is replaced by an 16 ...

Image

And reboot. It should work.
