We encountered an important incident on the Grenoble site
yesterday 23/06 from 23pm.
Indeed, the Grenoble site, belonging to Cogent Communication,
in which all of our servers are hosted is air conditioned
by 5 industrial air conditioning systems.
Three of these air conditioning units broke down yesterday causing the temperature on the ground of the site to rise to almost 45 ° C.
Several refrigeration technicians were on site to try
to restart the cold system.
At around midnight, one of the air conditioning systems exploded, generating smoke which triggered the fire system. The FM200 has nevertheless been deactivated.
It was then decided, in agreement with all the host companies on the site, to cut all the servers to avoid any damage to the installations and especially that the FM200 cylinders did not explode because the pressure in them this was too high (the temperature causing the gas to expand). Eh ????
At around 1 am the firefighters arrived on site and decided to cut all of the site's electrical installations in order to bring the temperature down.
They also sucked in the warm indoor air thanks to an extractor.
Around 3 am the temperature of the site had dropped to around 30 ° C but the air conditioning systems still could not work.
It was therefore decided to wait until this morning for repairs to be made by other specialists from Lyon.
This morning around 9 a.m., 4 out of 5 systems were operational.
The 5th system can only be repaired after tomorrow.
We have therefore put about 50% of our installations back into service in degraded mode. This means that all the services are accessible but with poorer performance.
Today we are making a declaration to our insurance companies in order to be able to compensate our customers for the inconvenience caused.

We draw your attention to the fact that all of these disturbances have been generated once again by Cogent. We are currently looking for solutions to leave the Cogent site and thus, either set up a hosting site of its own, or use the services of 9Telecom in Lyon.
