Godwin's law

by Christophe » 18/07/07, 12:33

This "law" can be extrapolated to any type of discussion whose forums, I'll pass it to you here.

Godwin's law is an extension of the Reductio ad Hitlerum which is part of the Usenet folklore. In 1990, Mike Godwin stated the following rule of thumb: "The longer a discussion on Usenet, the more likely it is to compare it with the Nazis or Hitler" 1

Explanations

This “law” is based on the assumption that a Usenet discussion that lasts over time gradually leads people to warm up and replace arguments with insults, or to use extreme arguments or analogies. Since Nazism is often considered the worst of ideologies, any comparison of the subject or of a speaker with a movement of this kind is considered to be a sign of the failure of the discussion, at least if the starting point was very far away. We therefore believe that it is time to close the debate, from which nothing relevant will emerge, to start on a sound basis. We then say that we have reached the “Godwin point” of the discussion.

ps: I feel like we're going to godwinate a lot now : Mrgreen:

I suggest that you immediately close this post, history that we have the least goodwin point possible.
so far we have done very well with the Chancellor of the Third Reich and I think it is very good.
I point out that, jump error, it was you who started! ! : Mrgreen:

If I paint it it will be just 1 godwin point more ...

I do not take part in this theory, I simply inform you (and I at the same time) of its existence ... : roll:

Anyway I think that any discussion for too long brings minds to heat up now to make an analogy with Nazi theory :?: ...

yes, but what's nice (if godwin's law is true) is that ultimately, econologists are very calm about it :D

For now you seem to hold the Godwin point record reached from the 3rd post! Image

Well seen crispus : roll: but it's not really the 3rd post since I already knew their point of view and I had already used an identical analogy previously.

Besides, even Jancovici uses it in his latest book: https://www.econologie.com/le-plein-s-il ... -3259.html

ps: to make an analogy with the Nazi theory it is in fact not really the title of the law of godwin which, if I understood correctly, evokes behaviors ...

I admit that I never read it in detail : Oops: : Oops: : Oops: there is enough troll here in fact for me to know what it is (well i think), like last one: https://www.econologie.com/forums/une-nouvel ... 79-10.html

For the G-spot ... I would not notice, the interested party is on the forums...
