What transformer for LED bulb?
hello to all, I discover this forum very nice and I think find answers to my questions.
Here is my little concern, I bought a stock of LED bulbs in China; the model is the MR16 or GU5,3 (I do not know why she has 2 appellation) in 12 Volts 1,5 watts and 18 leds. I tested on my existing installation which includes a transformer (220 / 12V 20-60VA ~ 50Hz cos = 0.99 MAX 4,9 A) and three halogen spots of 50 Watts.
If I plug one of my bulb alone, it lights up hardly. If I plug a halogen + a led bulb, it will light normally.
Should the transformer be specially adapted to LED bulbs or should there be a minimum number of led bulbs connected to the transformer so that there is enough power required?
On a battery of 12 volts it works very well so is it a problem of AC or DC but then why it works with a halogen bulb in parallel?
If anyone understands my gibberish and is able to answer me it would be nice.
Thank you for all your answers.

Welcome to you
I did not know this pb but I guess it must be a load pb of the transformer that should not debit enough voltage when the current draw is not enough ...
Solution in your case: put more than 3 Led bulbs (if possible), simulate a charge (not good for conso ...) or hack the transformer ...
But in any case you may not have the same lighting as with halogens ...
Other members will answer more precisely ... have you read the subject about transformers?

Here is a high yield diet: https://www.econologie.com/shop/alimenta ... p-227.html
Edit beginning 2011:

Edit beginning 2011:
Do not use this kind of transformer (pseudo sinus) on the leds: https://www.econologie.com/shop/transfor ... p-311.html
Some LED bulbs are compatible but not all ... the problem is that the compatibility test is ... destructive! The seller is supposed to prevent ... and know the accounts.
With leds it is necessary to use an 12V DC power supply or a ferric transformer (true sinus) but these become rare:

ps: what brand is your transformer? Because that would make a good series of experiments for the ecological "lab" being assembled

Uh, are you ready to take it down to see how it's done?
Normally it's not destructive

I will probably say nonsense , but having never been confronted with this case ...... come on I start without threads, it could simply be a bad contact like crappy soldering which would react only with a rather consequent "draw" of current.

Ben it was one of my assumption above ... but still it must be achievable in your case ... not at all ...

The transformer in question is an electronic transformer?
