How to supply 12V low voltage continues a 5W UVc tube originally supplied by a 230V ballast.
It is for the anti-coronavirus (and other viruses) thermal disinfection mask: health-pollution-prevention / virus-covid19-the-thermal-disinfectant-mask-t16392.html to which it would be interesting to add UVc disinfection! Provided that the doses of ozone created are compatible ...
Here is a 5W UVc tube (more than enough to disinfect respiratory air ... in both directions):
Here is what the Ballast looks like, it does not look very complicated ... but am not an electronics engineer!
If someone is well versed in electronics on which solder I can supply them with low DC voltage? If it's possible ?
A UVc tube has a double outlet which will feed each of the ionizing coils on each side of the UVc tube.
The 2 couples SEEM to be:
Black / Blue
Red White
I measure 0.06 to 0.08 Vac and 0.26 to 0.32 Vdc ... it's supposed to be a TRUE RMS multimeter but it's Chinese at 35 € on amazon so I have some doubts about it !!
Hz gives 37 Hz ...

Well an electronics friend just told me that no ... not possible ...
AC is needed to make AC output ...
The ballast is a step-down frequency multiplier ...

The ballast is designed to be supplied with 230V, to make it work in 12V it would be necessary to completely redo the primary circuit and rewind the transformer, as well replace it with a ballast one designed to be supplied with 12V at the origin.

Hello,
It is not a ballast but a 220VAC to (I suppose) 1000VAC voltage converter at the start.
the system is designed to be supplied with 220V, which itself after being rectified and filtered becomes continuous 300V which is “chopped” at 37000 Hz to supply a step-up transformer which will generate a voltage high enough to ionize the gas tube.
So the easiest way is to have a small inverter 12v => 220V, or to buy the same type intended for 12V.
Hoping that this will give you an explanation of the non-possibility of adaptation.

Here ... I followed your advice: test on a 600W inverter ... not even true sine! I have already analyzed one I can tell you that it is not beautiful!
It works nickel chrome ... the clean consumption of the inverter is, and it is rather surprising, very low ... 1 to 2W?
When the tube is very hot the TOTAL consumption goes under 4 watts ... good must say that it was 5W Chinese
At startup the total consumption is in the 10W ... after 10 min ca drops to the 6W ...
I did a 2h test ... I consumed 11Wh!
The photos tomorrow!

Indeed a 600VA inverter which consumes only 2VA, it is perfect, especially to supply such a low load.
It all makes a little gas plant I guess, but it solves your problem and that's good.
A few months ago, during an outage lasting several hours, a small recovery inverter "no sinus at all" helped me out to open the electric shutters. It saved us from finding ourselves like c..s in the dark and later being able to close them (intervention in the electrical panel of course, luckily I had a small 12v 10Ah charged battery available.
Suddenly this little thing appeared to me very beautiful, perfect or even precious when I had said almost badly when I got it back, that our certainties are very fragile in the face of necessity and our convictions quickly put under the handkerchief.
Otherwise ...... we would have had to deploy the big site: battery of the car with the hood open, inverter on it, extension of 20m, temporary cord and dominoes to supply the line of roller shutters, but because there is one BUT: it is necessary open the electric garage door !!! (we scrub it by hand it's simpler) and then it could have rained, Murphy's law requires
