Power meter socket on measurement of consumption

by The Passing » 11/11/05, 09:05

Hello,

I am looking for a small wattmeter that I can plug into the meter output to monitor my electrical consumption more precisely. What I want is to be able to connect this wattmeter to a PC to record the readings regularly every 5 minutes for example, via rs232 / 485 or other.

Anyone know of an inexpensive device that meets these criteria?

PS: I just found this assembly to achieve: http://www.circuitcellar.com/library/pr ... ay96/8.htm but I'm a bit lazy, so if there is a ready made model ... :)

This type of device exists. It even indicates the voltage, total or instantaneous consumption, the cos and some others
little useless stuff.
I borrow that of my beauf, it's great. I think that
can be found in the home appliance, DIY and electronics stores.
My Beauf wins it at Oxfam.
Thanks to this thing I learned that my empty cellar pump consumes as much
empty only when fully charged. Strange, isn't it?
That a Pc it consumes when cooked, I would not have believed.

Interesting that ... would you have more details, like a reference of the device for example, and possibly its price?

If it can "motivate" the request a little, I already do it for the rack which contains some elements at home: small server under GNU / Linux, home alarm, modem, switch, all on an inverter which returns the power consumed instantly:

https://pie.dyndns.org/ups/

It is a coincidence that this inverter is capable of returning power. I would like to do the same for the consumer. of the entire house, and independently of EDF hihi :)

I did this because we had strong drops in voltage .... I called EDF who didn't care at first, but with the graphs in front of me, they changed phase before the meter , and since then it's been much better.

Small note in passing: year-round my server and everything connected to it, it consumes 70 Watts. 70 watts x 24 hours x 365 days / 1000 = 613 kWh per year. At 0,07 € TTC per kWh it's 43 € all the same ... not negligible a PC that runs all the time!

Interesting components ...

The ADE7753 is just what you need: http://www.analog.com/en/prod/0%2C2934% ... %2C00.html

Great for this component, it gives measurements of active, reactive and resistive powers on a serial port o_O

datasheet: Image.

I ordered 2 ICs (ADE7753) in free samples on the founder's website :)

here is the promised photo.
Sorry about the delay, I had lost the packaging and its contents.
A chance that the beauf did not claim it earlier.

I'm sure there are other devices doing the same thing
dif. even I already bought one but it disappointed me
It was 5 years ago. This one is perfect for what I tell her.
request.

Wonder if my beauf remembers that I have it .... : roll:

Thank you : Wink:

It's German: http://www.brennenstuhl.de

- Hop-hop: http://www.pat-training.co.uk/230V_elec ... _meter.htm at £ 40, around € 60 therefore.
