Floods in Burkina Faso: nearly 110.000 people evacuated
AP | 03.09.2009/00/32 | XNUMX:XNUMX p.m.

At least five people have been killed by torrential rain that poured over Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, and nearly 110.000 people have been evacuated from their homes, authorities said on Wednesday.

Social Affairs Minister Pascaline Tamini told public radio that she expects the number of people affected by these bad weather to increase significantly in the coming hours. President Blaise Compaore has asked the international community for help.

The rains began to fall on Tuesday morning, in particular forcing the authorities to evacuate patients from the main hospital in the capital of Burkina Faso. Two years ago, torrential rains poured over this African country, killing 84 people, while 146.000 people were evacuated. AP
