European environment ministers meet Friday and Saturday in the mountain resort of Aare in central Sweden to refine their strategy four and a half months from the crucial deadline of the Copenhagen international climate conference have required efforts from developing countries.

With our Brussels office

To continue playing a key role at the World Climate Conference in Copenhagen next December, the European Union is raising its voice. The Twenty-Seven threaten not to reveal their financial contribution, which is intended to help developing countries, until the last minute.

They request specific environmental commitments from their partners. The Union confirms its desire to help poor countries embark on ecological growth, but it also wants to see contributions on the negotiating table.

Money at the heart of the talks

Money will indeed be at the heart of international talks to fight climate change. The amount of this aid to developing countries will be one of the major challenges of the world conference. A conference which aims to replace the Kyoto protocol in 2012.

The other pressure lever of Europeans is their commitment to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by 20 or 30%. The final figure will actually depend on the outcome of the Copenhagen meeting. By then, the Twenty-Seven hope to see negotiations speed up. They believe that the pace is too slow to reach an ambitious agreement.

Yes.
there is no reduction in pollution if we subtract everything in countries that make no effort.
and then, the poor polluting less than the rich, it is better that the poor remain poor. CQFD! : Mrgreen:
