Environment: the French state their positions

by Bibiphoque » 02/10/08, 10:31

Hello,

“In reality, we are witnessing a radicalization of the positions of the French, divided between those who say they adapt their purchasing behavior to environmental requirements and those who recognize that they are increasingly neglected. However, if the first category has dropped from 30% in March 2007 to 36% in August 2008, the second also experienced an ascending curve going from 23% to 26%.

On the other hand, it is necessary to take a step back in the face of these claims launched in a context where there is a tendency to make consumers feel guilty for their expensive lifestyle. As a result of which, last August, 10% of French people certified having paid, in the past 12 months, a donation to a lambda ecological association. But, according to the magazine Terre Sauvage, if one French in ten had given even only € 10 a year to these associations, "The naturalist sector would be the most formidable lobby in France".

: Shock: Explain to me how they calculate ...

Because if giving 10 € for 1 in 10 French people makes the most powerful lobby, would that mean that each French person does not bring in more than 1 € (10/10) to the oil or nuclear lobbies per year?

It is the equivalent of consumption of 25L of oil per Frenchman and per year assuming a profit for the tanker of 0.04 € per L... ditto for kWh

In short it is nonsense ... it is dangerous to spread this kind of thoughts ... (I'm not saying that for you bibi but for the magazine and unvers nature) which ultimately make the game of lobbies precisely!

The magazine may have exaggerated, but beware of calculations that are too quick: we are talking about donation therefore without tax or anything, that is 6 million entirely and solely devoted to lobbying.

Nothing to do with the profit of a company, which it will take from its "operating" budget according to its possibilities and the expected results of the lobying.

Because you believe that when you give to an association it uses 100% in lobbying? An association also has costs ... and not just a little ...

Operating costs of the telethon: 20% or 100 million euros for less than 200 employees, we wonder who gets fat !!

Here again, an association whose aim is medical research and lobbying should not be confused.
When we donate to the telethon, it is to finance labs, pay researchers etc. When we give to MSF, it is for medical equipment, the cantonment of teams, etc. Besides that, there is money management, accounting, communication, etc. which are considered as operating costs and which eat up part of what is happening on the ground.

But the lobbying activity is 100% communication, cronyism, restaurants, hotels, people who know people who will try to influence one or the other, to push a directive etc. There is no concrete material.

But we are not going to speculate for hours. The essence of Bibiphoque's text is that the French say one thing and practice another. And that we already knew.

Yes Christine but the question is: where does the information stop where does the lobbying start?

Take the example of greenpeace: it is the green association which undoubtedly does the most lobbying but which also informs enormously ... the limit is not clear ... then they lobby for whom? Besides, what does it mean precisely to lobby?

Providing the public with information that is not usual (but accurate) is already a beginning of lobbying in my opinion. If only because the public can more or less consciously put pressure on politicians and companies by voting and consuming it.
