Melamine milk scandal Chinese: Continued in Europe

by martien007 » 25/09/08, 16:03

Europe takes precautions.

Would not surprise me that there is a little everywhere in milk products (cakes ..). You never know if the milk powder used to make these products comes from China or not (I would rather say yes, because it must be the cheapest on the market).

Adulterated milk: the EU will ban Chinese products at risk for children

The European Union intends to impose a total embargo on Chinese products for children containing milk powder, after the adulterated milk scandal that erupted in China, announced Thursday the European Commission.

Three measures are planned at this stage, which should be formalized Friday, after an expert meeting of the EU member countries.

It is planned to implement controls on all food products from China containing more than 15% milk powder, such as biscuits or chocolate, as well as spot checks for products. of this type already on the European market.

Finally, the Commission plans to "impose a total embargo on products from China for children containing any percentage of milk", "to ensure that such products are not imported in any form whatsoever. ", added the spokesperson for the European Commissioner for Health and Consumer Protection, Androulla Vassiliou, during a press briefing.

China: massive withdrawal of dairy products from supermarket shelves
The European Union has imposed an embargo on Chinese imports of dairy products per se since 2002 because it considers the controls insufficient on the spot.

In addition, China announced Thursday to give more resources to the food safety control system.

“The quality inspection authorities have been ordered to establish nearly 400 control centers within two years and 80 of them will be centers for food control,” said Hou Linglin, a senior head of the Quality Control Administration at a conference in Beijing.

In Europe, customs supervision has already been strengthened in recent days to thwart possible fraudulent imports and to check whether Chinese milk particles are not found in other imported food products.

The measures announced Thursday follow a day's announcement by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) that children with high consumption of highly contaminated products - sweets, biscuits and chocolates - could see their health threatened.

Those with an "average" consumption of products contaminated by Chinese milk in Europe are not at risk, according to a press release from EFSA, which had been seized on this subject by the European Commission.

According to the Agency, the risk of contamination for adults is non-existent.

The scandal in China continues to grow, with many countries deciding to stop their imports of dairy products or milk powder from that country.

The British number one of the large distribution Tesco announced Wednesday to have suspended, "as a precautionary measure", the sale of sweets of Chinese origin in "a small number of stores" in which they were sold.

Some 53.000 children had to be treated in China after consuming melamine-contaminated milk, a chemical used in the manufacture of glues or resins, according to Beijing. At least four children are dead.

In response to the article: EU sweet milk will ban Chinese products at risk for children
Wait 2 years !!!!!!
To read this article one wonders if our leaders are responsible or unconscious people.
We need to learn from the press that since 2002 an embargo is supposedly in place on dairy products but not on derivatives. I like the word Expert because it shows that the money is ROI
