If you have stored data on CD-Rs, the lifespan of those media would be very short (2 to 10 years). Even the INA is worried:

Moué that's what I was always told ... only I found old CDs of more than 10 years and are always readable :)

2 years must be done on purpose to scratch it or leave it in the sun ...

What is an alternative to archiving? Magnetic tapes?

Otherwise at the recycling level of CDs, turning them into a scarecrow it works quite well :) There are also the Christmas decorations ...
