Tonight on FR2: Supplement to the survey Biofuels

by Christophe » 08/10/07, 14:07

COMPLEMENTARY INVESTIGATION - Date: 08/10/2007 - Schedule: 23:05 p.m. - 00:44 a.m. Duration: 99 mn

Special "environment":

In summary:

"Biofuel, the new gold rush". This is the new American El Dorado: growing corn to make ethanol. Subsidized by the Bush administration in the name of energy independence, the biofuels business revives the plains of Iowa.

"Who poisoned the West Indies?" Banana growers in Guadeloupe and Martinique used a high-potency pesticide, Chlordecone, at high doses. Result: soils poisoned for decades, polluted sources, residents with cancer.

"The seeds of anger". In August 2007, in the Lot, a farmer put an end to his days: for only testament, an ear of corn and the leaflet of militants denouncing his field of GMOs.

Apparently the Biofuels part may look a lot like thema from last week: https://www.econologie.com/forums/arte-02-10 ... t4103.html

What can the average consumer think? What other eco-viable solutions will not be presented? Always the same speech ... pfff : Evil:

"The seeds of anger". In August 2007, in the Lot, a farmer put an end to his days: for only testament, an ear of corn and the leaflet of militants denouncing his field of GMOs.

- The report is largely based on the Girac drama (suicide of a farmer planting GMOs see https://www.econologie.com/forums/un-cultiva ... t3915.html ) for journalists, there is no doubt: it's 100% the fault of anti GMOs, for proof, the leaflet found at his feet ...

This judgment misses enormously analyzes on the part of the journalists ... As one already said: a suicide NEVER has only one cause ... it is a chain of facts with a dramatic consequence.

- Spokesperson for Pioneer, GMO seed company: "these are not GMOs but OGA (A = improved)" The interview is done in the ... parking lot because day workers are not welcome in their premises ...

- Millions of Greenpeace anti-GMOs, are happy there on TV ... but they have no counter arguments on the suicide of the farmer.

In general, we can see that their argument is fading VERY QUICKLY ...

- Overall, the message against anti-GMOs (therefore the message of pro-GMOs) is quite strong: "terrorists, harassment, hatred, thugs, embiguadés ...". In short, we demonize them.

When we see the hateful and especially paradoxical behavior of certain "ecologists", I can understand these words ...

- We see Mr Libouban (L'Arche community), founder in 2005 of the voluntary reaper. They are 7000 now.
In 2 years they managed to do much better than us in 7 at the Pantone level. But there is probably a good reason for this: it is easier to denounce and destroy than to build ...

- The only cultivable GMO in France is MON 810 which contains a pesticide to fight against 2 corn pests.

- Without GMOs, there is a risk of losing 30% of the harvest because of these parasites.

- 6 out of 25 EU countries allow GMOs ... France is one of them.

- 1% of the land in France is GMO, 22 ha.

- GMO culture: USA, 50 Million ha, Argentina, 17 Million ha.
https://www.econologie.com/ogm-en-argent ... -2957.html

- A GMO farmer says about his crops, we must cultivate: "Even better, even more, even cleaner, GMOs are a strong ecological act" : Mrgreen:

- At the end, the journalists themselves admit that there is no serious long-term study on the consequences of the massive cultivation of GMOs ...

"Biofuel, the new gold rush". This is the new American El Dorado: growing corn to make ethanol. Subsidized by the Bush administration in the name of energy independence, the biofuels business revives the plains of Iowa.

- 200 kg of corn are necessary to fill up. Compare to
250 kg necessary to feed a person in the Third World ... for a year!

- 3% of wheat in France = energy for bioethanol

- The ton of Corn doubled in the USA between 2003 and 2007 because of ethanol going from 80 to 160 $ / T.

- Ethanol is a big deal for farmers who become millionaires ... especially if they make GMOs ...

- Average refinery in the USA: it consumes 3200 tonnes of corn per day for 1 million liters of ethanol.

- Ford T in 1908: designed to run on ethanol. Oil quickly replaces it for obvious capitalist arguments.
Key dates for bioethanol: 1930, 1973 and 2006.

For 1930 and 1973 it enriched some industrialists and farmers but it quickly fell back when oil was "cheap" again ...

- Problem related to energy corn: influence on the cost of animal feed, + 15% of costs, therefore increase in the price of meat. Intensive monoculture: impoverishment of the soil, almost no bacterial life. The water problem is not mentioned.

- Research "in progress" concerning biofuels of "2nd generation" (moué moué ...) based on non-food plants such as Sorgo.

- Jean Ziegler is invited. He is a specialist in world hunger.

For him it is unacceptable to use food plants to refuel. He's talking about a crime against humanity ...

I don't mind, but what must go in our car must go into the stomach of those who are hungry. It was far from being the case before ethanol so pkoi it would be the fault of ethanol?

maybe i was not attentive enough
but I haven't heard of the carbon footprint
biofuel supply chains?
when it seems to be the 1st scam
as a direct result the poor will be able to
die faster (rolling them is difficult but soon they will not be able to eat)

the whole formal process (with the complicity of counter-investigation)

seems to make us swallow the taxes in preparation +
and the guilt of being mean to the poor

Exact no environmental assessment has been done at CO2 level or even at the level of energy consumed / produced ...

Only the impoverishment of the soil has been mentioned ... for me it's clear a biofuel which consumes more energy in the form of petroleum than energy than it releases it is not a biofuel but a escrofuel

Hello

Yesterday at the end of the afternoon, there was a debate on France Culture on the future of our planet in the program "du grain à moudre" (title really adapted that day!)
Theme of the show, will technologies allow us to correct the damage caused by our current way of life

One of the interlocutors said:
"It takes as much wheat to produce the equivalent in biofuel of a full 4x4 vehicle, as to feed a man for a year" !!!
This fits perfectly with what was said in a previous message

While we have no guarantee that unprocessed wheat would feed poor countries, it should still be pointed out that the current inflation on cereals (their price has doubled in a short time) is linked to growing market demand. North American for the production of "Bio" fuel
Now, not only will the poor countries start to cultivate cereals, but will starve while watching on their big screen TV (freshly bought with dollars), the American car fleet rolling with the biofuel that they will have helped to produce

The kilo of wheat will soon be worth more than a human life?

Our "friends" from across the Atlantic really dominate the world ..... con ...... ie

good reflection
