Bonjour,

interesting to read:

GMOs: deciphered industrial cyberlobbying

Brief summary of semantic manipulations by information warfare specialists

Entitled "Cyberlobbying or the new logics of influence - Case study: the debate on GMOs", a study seeks to decipher the "manipulations" of the site ogm-debats.com, emanating from a group of industrialists from the 'food industry in favor of genetically modified organisms.

At the origin of the study, the economic intelligence consultancy C4iFR was created in 2001 by five former students of the School of Economic Warfare (EGE), associated with one of its founders, Christian Harbulot.

Specialized in "influencing communication", C4iFR "infoguerre consultants" were interested in ogm-debats.com as a textbook case of these "honeypot" sites whose "objective is no longer to misinform but to convince, persuade or influence public opinion ". Without taking sides in favor of or against GMOs, the study deciphers the mechanisms implemented to convey the message to manufacturers.

The study's analytical framework is strongly influenced by the notions of "cognitive warfare" and "Perception management" (PM). The PM covers "all actions consisting in providing or, on the contrary, concealing information to foreign audiences so as to influence their emotions, their motivations and their objective reasoning".

Doctrine defined by the US Department of Defense, the PM "begins by presenting the facts in their raw state, then modifies the perception of the target population so as to make it itself the sender of the message", explains the study by C4iFR.
