And a Coca-DDT, a !!!!

Pesticides in Coca India!

This is an exciting soap opera against the backdrop of economic interests, political issues and social and environmental realities. His name is "Coke-Pepsi-Pesticide II," as written on a report released last week by the Center for Science and Environment (CSE), a leading Indian NGO.
What does the study say? That two American multinationals, PepsiCo and Coca-Cola, market sodas filled with pesticides. Thus, 57 samples taken on 11 from their drinks display chemical residues (including DDT!) 24 200 times larger than the law allows. A law that has not yet come into force ...

Discredit.
This is where it becomes interesting. In 2003, the two cadas of cola had already been pointed out by the CSE. That year, the NGO found pesticides in the water of 17 brands, but also in American colas. Parliament had promised a regulation ... remained in the pipes of the Bureau of Indian Standards. Because lobbying has entered the dance. The CSE speaks of behind-the-scenes pressures, calls from the power arcane, but also government attempts to discredit the NGO's credibility, "twenty-year tax investigations," and even a committee parliamentarian to investigate the veracity of his report. "We ended up on the grill," says a CSE activist. By deciding to put the cover back, he finds himself a little more.
Because, already, the cola war is "obviously one of the major stakes in India, and, beyond, an issue in countries like China," says Bruno Rebelle, Greenpeace International. The story has also taken a turn of boycott: six Indian states have banned the sale of drinks (see above). This time, the Indian Supreme Court gave the giants four weeks to deliver the drinks. A dilemma for Coke, who has always refused to fan his legendary secret. Which had earned him being banned in India from 1970 to 1993.
Proliferation.
Coca-Cola has since battled to regain market share (estimated at 2 billion). With PepsiCo 80% of soda sales in India between them, they counterattack. "We have engaged some of the best scientific minds. All the numbers and facts prove that our products are safe, "said Dick Dettwiller, PepsiCo spokesperson. CSE's information "is false", adds Kari Bjorhus, his Coca-Cola alter ego ... The group has brought together a British lab, the Central Science Laboratory, which yesterday denounced the CSE report. "The first attack has always been on our lab," says the NGO. Not to mention the personal targets on our integrity. "But the NGO, created in 1980 and led today by Sunita Narain in the top 50 of the most influential personalities of the country, is not a network of amateurs. His 100 employees work on advocacy (the testimony) on water, drought, the environment. The multinationals ? "The arrival of Coca and Pepsi is incidental to our work on pesticide contamination," notes the NGO. She even received last year a prize of 150 000 dollars from the King of Sweden. "The NGO is all the more serious," says Maria Strenstöm of the Stockholm International Water Institute (Siwi). That's exactly why she was rewarded ... "
Coca and Pepsi have advertised in the press to ensure that pesticide levels in their beverages are far from what can be found in tea, eggs, fruit, etc. The CSE, for its part, wants to highlight the proliferation of pesticides, including India, where 40% of the population does not have access to drinking water, is one of the largest producers and consumers. As a result of intensive agriculture, residues come from water extracted from groundwater that is polluted by pesticide application in the surrounding fields. Coca and Pepsi know it well. They are not illegal. But can legitimately question the health risks ...

Here ,

I had read that Coke was used as a herbicide in India.

But not that it contained pesticides, maybe because it comes from the water that circulated in the fields that were weeded at ................ Coca

LOL

Yeah but, in my opinion, it's mostly for reasons of sugar content. Hence the famous proverb:
Coca before lying, snags all caries : Lol:

The chemists are wondering why the Coca-Cola (preferably lightened) and Mentos candy mix instantly gives a sweet, marronnasse but powerful geyser? The forums multiply on the Internet to exchange formulas and discuss the causes of this reaction. Discussions that turn into scientific debate ...

An explanation is commonly accepted, but not scientifically proven so far: the carbon dioxide (CO2) dissolved in the soft drink would be like "trapped in a mesh" formed by the water present in the Coca-Cola. The gum arabic contained in Mentos would break this mesh and suddenly release all the CO2, hence a strong release of gas which causes this soda geyser. However, a parallel experiment performed with pure gum arabic and Coca-Cola did not yield any results.

The manufacturers of the two products concerned do not react in the same way. The Atlanta firm, rather embarrassed by the scale of the phenomenon, simply reminds that its product is a drink and not ... entertainment. Conversely, the candy brand, which had taken a time "freshness click" as an advertising slogan, took advantage of the windfall to organize a competition for the most beautiful geyser on the Internet, reserved for consumers residing in the United States.

From the site Mentos.com, it is possible to put on line its personal video and thus to participate in the contest. A key to the most inventive, downloads of music offered on the site Itunes.com.

For some, this phenomenon has become a source of inspiration. Fritz Grobe and Stephen Voltz have created an "aquatic show" which can be viewed online at Eepybird.com. In less than a year, their site has attracted over 6 million visitors and made the fortunes of these students.
