Destruction of Serres d'Auteuil: "green" light!

by Leo Maximus » 05/06/15, 08:13

Manuel Valls gave the green light for the extension of the Roland Garros stadium on the grounds of the Serres d'Auteuil:

On the left, surrounded by yellow, Rolland Garros. On the right, surrounded by green, botanical garden of Auteuil greenhouses.

Officially, we do not touch anything. only recovering 4,5 hectares to enlarge the stadium.

In fact, with such a surface, listed garden will disappear. : Shock:

Shame to destroy this heritage ... for what ?? For money? Is that socialism?

The current Roland Garros complex has been "running" well for decades, what is the point of expanding?

The clamp is not listed?

If so, it is classified as a historical monument. Even the land of the place is closed!

The project does not provide the total destruction but the annexes greenhouses only. Deprived of its annexes the indispensable site will quickly condemned. The blow is well calculated, as always in such cases.

Rolland Garros could be transferred elsewhere long ago. On a brownfield site, eg Renault Billancourt nearby. But then, this is the clââsse Auteuil ...

There is an "equivalent" in Belgium to the Royal Greenhouses of Laeken in Brussels, it is also absolutely superb ....

But the Belgians them have a king who ensures that this remains an exceptional site. : Mrgreen: :frown: :|

[Off topic ON]
These huge Laeken greenhouses are heated ...... notoriously energy aberration ....

“At the stake!”: It is misunderstanding the role of these people in the society of the spectacle to offer them this “spectacular” punishment.
I propose a punishment infinitely more cruel: indifference.

Many European capitals have magnificent greenhouses (Kew in Great Britain, Berlin ...), a legacy of a time when States / Kingdoms invested without counting in science and the discovery of the world ... [well, let's face it frank and lucid: not unrelated to colonization, and not without an ulterior motive to assert its power; don't think it was just "generosity" or "science"!]

And a number of zoos, even if they are open to criticism from the point of view of treatment done to the animals (I speak here of historic zoos, antique, with animals penned in a few m2) were in the same spirit .. .

Today :

a) States do not even have the means to maintain them properly (except perhaps royalties, where the fact of the prince always weighs)

See the greenhouses of the Jardin des Plantes in Paris ...

b) people do not care overwhelmingly [I also, when I visit a city, I pass the Botanical Garden]!

I think, alas, that there are infinitely more people who "are interested" in the circus of Roland-Garros than in botany. The proof: the sponsors! If botany attracted so many admirers, Crédit Agricole - or another avid greenwashing brand! - would sponsor the greenhouses!

It is clear that there is a switching of modes of representation of the power and the accumulation of value is in favor of this kind of shows ...

With, basically, social values!

If Roland-Garros is so valuable, it's because the "public" gives it to it!

Each civilization has the hero it deserves and worships!
