SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT: A three-legged stool.

If sustainable development is generally declined according to the trilogy "Environment, Economy, Social", it would seem that a fourth dimension is missing.

Long before the 70s, Gandhi, an apostle of the nonviolence of tolerance and respect, reminded us of our duty as "citizens of the world" with two quotes.

In the first, "The Earth has the potential to meet our needs but not our greed", Gandhi shows us that our mother earth, nourishing earth, requires a balance in exchange. It lives, regenerates, recycles itself with an intelligent dynamic similar to the relationship that the gardener would have with his garden.

In the second, more philosophical, "Let's adopt a simple life with high thoughts", Gandhi turns to the more spiritual needs of man. In other words: Let us cultivate our inner riches and naturally embrace a simpler and more sober life. Are we not unconsciously pushed into the aisles of the consumer seeking to fill our gaps and compensate for our spiritual and emotional voids?

What is my attitude, my behavior in relation to the world?

Can there be sustainable development without personal development?

In the 80s, the United Nations offered us a theme for reflection: "Think globally and act locally". It seems elementary, that before thinking of the globe, it is already necessary to do the housework in its own sphere. In more spiritual circles, we would be told that everything is vibratory, that everything is interdependent, where the echo prevails. The whole becomes the mirror to the singularity. The image of the whole is reflected in each piece of the puzzle that constitutes it and vice versa.

In this perfect hologram, this sentence takes on its full meaning: "If you change, the world changes".

Does sustainable development not take its roots in this reality which refers each of us to our ultimate responsibility: "Let's manage our world first".

At a time when we are talking about globalization, internet networks that challenge time zones, an Earth considered a village, man, often an apprentice sorcerer, is confronted with his creation.

The era we are going through is rich in lessons.

Yes, we must heal the planet, but above all rethink our behavior to enter into harmony with this holistic universe. If individualism and Cartesianism have produced convincing results in the Western world; are they not also the cause of the inhuman dysfunction on the three planes; Environment, Economy, Social?

The story repeats itself. In the 20th century, scientists collided with the new logic of quantum mechanics, and Einstein returned the tone by saying that one could only unravel the mystery if one changed one's way of thinking.

A century later, are we not faced with a task which requires us to carry out this same cleavage in our vision of ourselves and of the world in general?

If we want this stable and well-established change, sustainable development should have a fourth leg.
