Green purchase comparison: EcoCompare

by Christophe » 10/03/09, 00:39

Here is a site recently opened but growing fast: http://www.ecocompare.com/ allows you to quickly compare a few (almost 200) consumer products and see their impact on a scale of 0 to 5 on 3 criteria:

Manufacturing
Use Case
Recycling

Opinions are often very relevant and thoughtful.
Example of product: LG 1952 TE PF flat screen which consumes 2 times less than the average of its range: http://www.ecocompare.com/products/show/159

4 products from the eco-store are also listed there:

Why this site ... the explanation

by plumber » 23/03/09, 19:15

The idea for the ecocompare.com site came when I realized with 2 friends, the Guide du Romanais Responsable (GRR) where we listed "responsible" products to limit the impact on natural resources or to achieve energy savings. This guide also includes files and common sense rules such as recalling dates for seasonal fruits and vegetables.

This guide had the price of sustainable development (2007) from the town of Romans sur Isère and an excellent feedback from the inhabitants who found it practical and fun, hence the idea of creating a Web version which would allow to compare products , criteria by criteria.

My sensitivity to ecology but especially to responsible behavior and common sense is not new, it's been a while since I installed a solar heater, a compost bin, solar lighting in the aisle, 2 recuperator of rain, a bin to separate cardboard and plastic, flucompact bulbs .. even my professional premises are heated with a pellet stove.

In short, this ecocompare site was born from two passions: IT and the awareness that our resources are not inexhaustible and that we must change our behavior.

If you have any questions and comments regarding the operation of the site, do not hesitate to respond on this subject.

Bravo for this site and this initiative even if I am not always 100% in agreement with your judgments! : Cheesy:

Example with heat pumps: http://www.ecocompare.com/articles/show/5

You forget to say that it remains 100% electric / nuclear energy and that 80% of advertisements are misleading by presenting geothermal energy as renewable energy!

I made a news of presentation of Ecocompare

You are right to specify, we often forget the electrical part of PACS.

The file I made is surely very (too?) Synthetic but the objective is to allow a neophyte to know the different types of CAP. I also give some definitions concerning the hybrid principle or the principle of thermal resistance ...

Your file is much more detailed, it's clear ... I will add a link

See you soon !

by zorglub26 » 18/08/09, 14:11

I take my keyboard to inform you that we will soon modify ecocompare to make it more participative.

That the Lafuma group has published ten eco-designed products and that other manufacturers will soon follow.

But also that you can follow its news via a twitter link: http://twitter.com/ecocompare

Pending your active participation to create together a catalog of eco-designed or truly ecological products!

See you soon
