Indicator of social welfare and staff in Europe

by Christophe » 24/02/09, 11:31

Here are figures and 2 maps of Europe of social and personal well-being in Europe.

They are very serious competitors of the sacrosanct GDP which should no longer have its place in a modern society based on sustainable development as it has many shortcomings: see in particular the article, the dictatorship of GDP...

a) Personal well-being: http://www.nationalaccountsofwellbeing. ... /zpersonal

b) Social well-being: http://www.nationalaccountsofwellbeing. ... rs/zsocial

By following the 2 links, there are plenty of other indicators, details by country and even possible comparisons.

On the other hand, this dates from 2006-2007, so before the "crisis" which I think of damaging the well-being of Europeans ... and maybe French people more than others ...

Here is a multi-criteria comparison between France and Germany:
http://www.nationalaccountsofwellbeing. ... ntries/de#

Image

What is missing to the French compared to the Germans? Especially self-confidence!

It is a defect of the French, which can be explained, in part, by the very Franco-French elitism of studies which tends to crush those who have not or have not been able to do "great studies"! In general, any novelty or initiative in France is crushed even more than elsewhere ...

It is also interesting to see how money and purchasing power can influence the perception of life (diagram obtained by filtering: incomes> € 60 / year)

Image

It should be noted that the self-confidence of French people is barely higher than the EU average (in gray) for those who earn a good living: would it be shameful to make a good living in France?

It also appears that the Germans would be more materialistic because money would boost the absence of negative feelings and bring a satisfying life much more than in France ...

Comments:

What about Italy and Greece?

To be balanced for all countries: The Chevreuse Valley is doing better than Pantin! Waterloo better than Dampremy!

Censorship? : Mrgreen:

Finally as it is based on figures from 2006 - 2007 it had not yet heated too much in Greece ...

Interesting these cards: we see that the Scandinavian social democratic model (clear acceptance of the market economy, but a regulated market economy) has very positive results. On the contrary, the collectivist model has wreaked havoc in the countries of the former USSR.

France is somewhere in between.

"The Nordic zone, this oasis of well-being", headlined, a short time ago, a Swedish daily. When it was not Norway and Iceland that held the top ranking in the Human Development Index (HDI) in 2005, it was Sweden that scored at the top of “Global Happiness”, followed by Norway, while Iceland and Finland are the least corrupt countries on the planet and Denmark has the happiest citizens in Europe. But their well-being is matched only by their insolent economic health. Public accounts with a large surplus, unemployment rates far below the European average and growth rates which are among the strongest in industrialized countries… In short, the Nordic economies are today the most competitive in the European Union (. ..) "Religious individualism, which could be summed up by the formula" man must make his salvation alone ", finds constant translations in Nordic culture (...)"

And environmentally, the Scandinavian countries (and Switzerland) are not the worst either ...

And in the PISA (education) tests, they break all records ...

Crowned by the prestige of its results in the international PISA evaluations (Program for International Student Assessment) of 2000 and 2003, Finland was for me since
almost 6 years the subject of persistent questions to which the information that I had been able to glean during conversations or readings had not been able to answer. The opportunity of a study visit to the European Arion program allowed me to go there in April 2006.

Specificity of the Finnish education system; the child is at the center, free, and more and more responsible / autonomous; and society has a high regard for teachers who are also very well trained; In Finland, society really trusts teachers, so much so that the profession of inspector does not exist.

The individual, respect for the person, is sacred in Nordic culture. The Nordics do not wait passively and childishly (or worse, by sterile shouting at the revolution and the destruction of the system) that salvation comes from the top, from the government.

They have a very liberal approach: freedom and therefore individual responsibility occupy a central place.

There is still something I would like someone to explain to me:

to be well, you have to have money, so sell a lot

Scandinavian countries except Norway don't have huge nature reserves

their wages are high, especially because workers have to heat up

the higher the wages, the less we sell the less we earn

... and they have record HDIs!

But how do you do it? Perhaps should be explained to Sarko, Leterme, Reynders and others ...

Finland: a strategy based on innovation

(...) Research in Finland is one of the most intensive in the world. Research and development spending approaches 6 billion euros, or 3,4% of the national budget. The number of doctoral students has practically doubled in the last ten years. Finnish research personnel represent the highest percentage of the working population in the OECD.

Finland is also one of the most important countries in the world in terms of number of publications per capita. The long-term policy in science and technology consists of a global approach where politicians, investors, producers and holders of information and know-how together form an entity: the Finnish innovation system (... )

Innovation is a great engine of growth.

The Nordics? In general they prefer brunettes;)
It would be interesting to compare the place given to women in different countries and the HDI.

----
The Swiss Academy of Technical Sciences (SATW) publishes a study on the exemplary innovation system in Finland

Finland is considered a technological miracle. In just a few years, Finland has succeeded in becoming a leader of nations in the field of high technology at the global level. In 2003, the World Economic Forum nominated her as the winner on the basis of the “Growth Competitiveness Index”. Switzerland, on the other hand, is in seventh place. SATW commissioned a team of authors from the University of Zurich under the direction of prof. Dr. Beat Hotz-Hart examines the causes of Finland's innovative capacity and finds recipes for success for the Swiss innovation system (...)
