Simulate global warming in a bubble?

by Christophe » 10/03/20, 16:40

An idea that I have had in mind for years but that I have never put into practice and that could be really interesting ... for everyone!

Why not make a small simulator of global warming in a closed vase? DIY accessible to all!

The idea is simple: have 2 identical containers exposed to the same source of radiation and which would simulate the Earth's atmosphere.

I think of Ladies Jeanne for example.

We will put water, soil, some plants or some control insects (ants, flies ...) ... and (at least) a thermometer visible from the outside ...

In one of the 2 we would burn a little wood to increase (reasonably) the CO2 content ... 1 match should be enough ... (calculation to be done)

And we'll see what's going on!

Are you tempted?

ps: maybe it's already done ... i haven't searched the net ...

By taking a little CO² from a fire extinguisher, it would be easy to obtain a much higher concentration and to make the effects more visible (without the undesirable gases resulting from the combustion of your match) ...

Nor is the goal to saturate the atmosphere of Dame Jeanne with CO2 ... and the pollutants linked to combustion are also interesting, I think.

Beware of the possible sulfur dioxide (a match must emit upon ignition) which would cancel the greenhouse effect on the other hand ... but it could be a nice counter experiment !!!

I said a match like that, we can burn something else, as long as the combustion emits a reasonable amount of CO2 ...

Ideally the CO2 concentration should be increased from 200 to 300 ppm ... To simulate the change since the pre-industrial era ... obviously we would start from about 400 ppm I will not succeed in removing CO2 from the air origin!

In short, the amount of carbon burned is likely to be low .... or else a great lady Jeanne is needed! : Cheesy:

I just posted the study which says the opposite:

This will be an opportunity to verify.

Nothing personal but when you contradict yourself it's frankly annoying (for you) ...

Why do you think I created this topic a few minutes after you published it? : Cheesy:

Anyone could have this experience ...
