Nuclear tourism: visit the Chernobyl control room!

by Christophe » 13/10/19, 21:50

For those who want (breaks in DNA) you can now visit the Chernobyl control room ... ideal for family tourism becquerels ... the sandy beaches have become so has been!

The Chernobyl Control Room is now open to the public for 5 minutes!

Now you can go to the control room of the old Chernobyl nuclear power station. Yet in this room, the radiation remains 40'000 times higher than normal.

Yes, you read correctly: the 4 reactor control room at the old Chernobyl nuclear power plant is now accessible to tourists. This place has been the scene of the worst nuclear disaster in the world to date. Of course, the control room is still very radioactive and people going there must wear protective clothing inside the control room.

Last June, during the inauguration of a huge dome, built to contain radioactive materials, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Chernobyl had officially become a tourist attraction.

Chernobyl has been visited by many people for many years: in fact, some parts have been open to the public for about 10 years already. According to a recent report, Chernobyl bookings increased by about 30% after the publication of the HBO series of the same name.

However, the 4 reactor had always been closed to the public, with the exception of a few researchers and cleaners. But now, the Chernobyl travel agencies have confirmed that the control room is open to the most courageous tourists, who wish to be closer to the place of the disaster.

It must be known that the control room was badly damaged by the explosion: it is the place where the reactor was operated and where many decisions were taken on the day of the disaster. Now, the room is under the new containment arch, but outside the original sarcophagus, containing the radiation from the reactor itself.
