EDF wants to postpone the dismantling of its nuclear reactors ... to 2100!

Oil, gas, coal, nuclear (PWR, EPR, hot fusion, ITER), gas and coal thermal power plants, cogeneration, tri-generation. Peakoil, depletion, economics, technologies and geopolitical strategies. Prices, pollution, economic and social costs ...

EDF wants to postpone the dismantling of its nuclear reactors ... to 2100!

by Christophe » 11/06/16, 13:35

For reasons mentioned in terms of technology development and cost reduction: http://www.lesechos.fr/industrie-servic ... 003286.php

EDF is therefore following, for the moment, the idea that I had initiated in 2011: energies-fossil-nuclear / why dismantle-the-central-nuclear-t10729.html

You truncate the information.

We are only talking about power plants of the 1st generation of Graphite Gas technology.

Yes, this concerns the very first generations arrested for already decades ... the current PWR will therefore, logically, be dismantled here even longer ... this is at least what we can deduce if EDF wins this coup of poker with ASN ...

what is the point of dismantling? when the power plants are running they are waterproof ... as long as they are maintained they will stay eatnche!

is it not easier to continue to maintain the old power stations, than to dismantle it to be obliged to build other structure to contain the waste, even more voluminous than the power station in its normal state

the question arises for the oldest low power nuclear power plants which are useless given their low power ... but even useless it seems to me more economical to maintain them than to dismantle them

and it seems that I am right: the cost of dismantling the oldest plant dissuades from dismantling the following ones ...

This is the question I asked myself in 2011 here: energies-fossil-nuclear / why dismantle-the-central-nuclear-t10729.html

Econology, a pioneer, will save EDF billions free !! : Mrgreen:

Uh not in working order but in "no leak" condition ... it's not the same!

Just sink a sarcophagus and seal it for hundreds of years! A few remote geiger sensors, a few technicians to monitor this and it is set ... infinitely cheaper and risky, even over 1000 years, than dismantling!

Easy to do for a plant that does not leak when we know that we are (re) doing it for Chernobyl full of leaks !!!

no ... it's not putting concrete on top that makes it waterproof ... coarse solutions make it impossible to control ... keeping it in working order as if it were used allows you to keep good access to everything the details, check and repair when necessary

obsolete power plants do not need to be in working condition but in a state of good maintenance allowing them to be controlled

when an obsolete plant is shut down I hope there are the people it takes to put anti-corrosion products in the water so that it will keep for a long time

Yes if you want ... I obviously caricatured!

What is certain is that a power station where the fuel is permanently removed only poses a problem as the clean radioactivity of the materials of the primary circuit ... A good lead varnish of 3 cm and it is settled :D :D :D

As for primary water, it must be drained and ask the engineers at Fukushima :) They know how to treat it : Mrgreen: : Mrgreen: : Mrgreen:

Sorry it's not funny (though ...)

Although not bragging about it, Switzerland has a "good" experience in nuclear bullshit: A little reading here ou leaves

I see that Switzerland, like France (Chooz A) have made their first nuclear reactor tests ... underground ... not for nothing probably ...

Thanks for these links!

Neither Switzerland nor Germany have formally given a date for final cessation (something like 2050) it will depend on the progress of research in the field of storage, solar thermal, C-PV etc. ..

2100 does not seem incongruous in terms of the pragmatism of "industrial logic." On the other hand in terms of health and geology:

- is that theoretically there would only be 50 years of fuel reserves (uranium).

- so mathematically we will never get to 2100.

- when Switzerland and Germany are out of it, the uranium that will remain will cost so much that it will no longer be "competitive" anyway.

- and finally that if we take the average of major accidents (level 7) since the 10s, we are at the heart of a molten reactor (or other very serious incident) every 2100 years with releases to nature! Either in XNUMX we will have had no less than 9 other Chernobyl and other "gratification" Fukushima so far ...! : Shock:

— 9 accidents of this type with each time the doses are added, we will not have to wait until 2100 to see the world population reduced to 1 billion inhabitants (or even almost completely disappear: we should see what the experiments on white mice, female , purebred in Chernobyl, but we are much LESS resistant than these rodents ... the human species is already extremely weakened by industrial food) weakened also due to the accumulation of "low dose irradiation"(which will then no longer be so" weak "than that) and which could cause a massacre (in particular by the explosion of pathologies due to the weakening of the species and to the immune deficit that we will never be able to overcome due to the gigantic quantities of food that we would have to absorb to compensate for the devastating effects in the organism with as a corollary an explosion of mortality from multifactorial degenerative causes containing a predominant factor and not foreseen by nature ...)! The first signs significant will be the decrease in "healthy life expectancy"... (EVSI or Healthy Life Years HLY,) then "life expectancy" all short ...
