pyralene does not burn: it is precisely its advantage ... it releases toxic product when it is burned by the heat of other fuels

I think that currently all the transformers are mineral oil

On bfm in the comments an interesting comment:

Hello, For having warned the firefighters at 13:37 exactly and being on the road between Thionville and Hettange I indicated to have clearly seen an explosion and a ball of fire before the plume of black smoke visible on the photo. At the time when we had the firefighters in line, they were not aware of any fire and trucks left Thionville following my call. We stopped making us believe in a fire in progress then. that it was indeed an explosion ...

We must not panic the populace.

Yes except that a fire can very well cause an explosion (and vice versa)

But a fire of this magnitude on a nuclear site ("Our plants are more and more safe" according to EDF) is already a disaster!

Here is the ASN page (which I consider, I hope rightly, still independent and reliable) about this accident: http://www.asn.fr/index.php/S-informer/ ... e-Cattenom

(...)

The draw-off transformer allows electricity to be supplied to the reactor during normal operation. The site has two power supply lines, so the auxiliary line has taken over following the loss of the draw-off transformer. In addition, standby generator sets are installed to supply electricity to a reactor in the event of total loss of external power supplies. However, it was not necessary to put them into service as part of this event.

Two ASN inspectors are currently on the spot, in particular to examine the conditions under which the fire started, and to monitor the emergency measures implemented by the licensee. This significant event will then be classified on the INES scale.

The loss of a reactor supply line is still serious ...

Law of series? Interesting the reaction of edf in the last paragraph ...

Asked about a possible increase in incidents since the start of 2013, EDF said it had no information to this effect.

: Shock:
