Ay had to arrive:

China, first energy consumer in the United States

China overtook the US to become the world's largest energy consumer, said Tuesday the director of the International Energy Agency (IEA).

"China is now the largest consumer of energy by our definition," Nobuo Tanaka told a conference.

“Probably half of the increase in oil demand comes from China. Nobody knows when it will slow down,” he added.
