Biotreck: a rally raid expedition in Africa

by Christophe » 02/03/07, 18:29

A few days ago an expedition left to cross Africa in order to (among other things) promote "biofuels" (well almost because ETBE 15 is not really one, we better understand the presence of TOTAL in BIG on cars). Here is some information:

1) Objectives:

2) Vehicles:

The BIOTRECK AFRICA 2007 expedition consists of 4 vehicles:

1 Citroën 11 B Traction-Avant from 1950 nicknamed "Scarabée",
led by Eric Massiet du Biest.
1.911 cc, 3 cylinders, 4 CV
This car runs on ETBE 15 Bioethanol

1 Citroën 11 B Traction-Avant from 1950 nicknamed "Escargot",
led by Dominique Morlat.
2.000 cc, 3 cylinders, 4 CV
This car runs on ETBE 15 Bioethanol

1 Santana PS10 4x4 2006 nicknamed "Popeye",
led by Olivier Milleville.
2.700 cc displacement, 3 diesel cylinders, 4 CV

1 Santana PS10 4x4 2007 nicknamed "Spartacus",
led by Thibaud le Pivert
2.700 cc displacement, 3 diesel cylinders, 4 CV

3) Tracking the shipment "live" with Google Map: http://www.biotreck.org/biotreck-africa ... _reel.html

4) The itinerary: http://www.biotreck.org/biotreck-africa-2007/itineraire.html

5) The official site (with lots of info and goodies): http://www.biotreck.org
A film report will be shot and broadcast at the end of the expedition.

ps: I have been aware of this initiative for a few weeks but as I was wondering about Total's presence in such a project, it was ("well") defended by the project manager in the sense that the assistance and the free fuel supplied by Total could not be "refused" ...
