Self-installation of my wind turbine!

by atqui » 11/10/08, 14:01

Hello everyone.

I will soon install my whisper 1000 wind turbine and I will need advice.
I bought 2 pieces of square section steel scrap (8cm side) which I welded, which gives me a mast 11m high which I intend to attach to the pinion of my house. Is it a good idea ? And to avoid the vibrations of the machine I will interpose on 2 different heights of the silent blocks? Is it effective and where can we find these silent blocks for this use?

That's it and thank you for your lights : Idea:

Hello,
Your explanations are a bit short.
Pictures? it's possible? it would be a good start :D
Personally, with everything I've read, beware of vibrations ... Due to a wind turbine attached to a house wall ...
Mat photos please.
Ha bin yes, I see that you are aware of the risk of vibrations ...
(by re-reading your message :D )
:D apart from the photos, I answered for nothing :?
A photo of the breakdown of the gable of the house perhaps?
Are you planning to connect to the electrical network, or to batteries?

Ok here are the pictures.

And if all goes well, the electricity produced will be stored in 4 batteries.

Thanks for the answers.

Pout

With a concrete block house -> impossible
but even with a wooden house I remain skeptical.

even if the power does not seem enormous, it will apply a horizontal force. Find out if someone has done it before.

Ditto for your mast foot. It will tend to leave horizontally.

It must also be taken into account that a wind turbine must be visited at least once a year.
So you have to be able to file it, or have access to it ...

wind turbine installation

I think, on the contrary, that it can do this. I mounted mine with a system like this. I don’t have the photos on hand but I can find them. A tube of 6 cm of dia put for a 100watts is sufficient. car block rests may be suitable.

A balanced 1000watts machine, which produces very little vibration.

: Arrow: I will not comment on the fixing of the wind turbine on the gable of a house, whether it is brick, concrete blocks ... or with wooden frame. :?:

The wind turbine must be as high as possible. and as said above, that we can "visit" it regularly.

A friend of mine who built his wooden house installed a nearby wind turbine, a 300W Rutland.
He mounted it on a 60mm tube mast (I think).
The 9-meter mast is held by 3 guy lines.

The bottom of the mast is made with 2 U between which the mast is held by bolts.
By removing the bolts except one, we can tilt the mast and "lower" the wind turbine to check it.

Ah, your experience interests me !!
Can you send me the photos by email, it would be super nice.

FYI, the mast weighs 90kg (which I paid 90 euros at the scrap yard or 1 euro per kg - a commercial mast must surely cost more!) - the wind turbine about 40kg - so 130kg in all and including the vibrations in medium wind - is it dangerous to fix it to the purlin (very large piece of raw douglas wood) of the pinion which is 7m away - the mast + wind turbine culminating at 11,50m ???
Can vibrations be effectively absorbed by silent blocks?
In case of strong wind, the wind turbine automatically retracts which reduces the risks.

So, is it playable? I would prefer this much more aesthetic solution than the guyed mast.

For controls, I could always rent a lift like those used by EDF or France telecom.

For me, this is a bad question, the breakdown will hold up.
The good question is rather how is this breakdown fixed?

I saw leaving during storms full frames (construction defect).

The main problem is not the vibrations (although), but rather that your breakdown has not been sized (it does not mean that it will not hold) to undergo horizontal forces (it is for that matter that there is more risk of fixing it on a concrete block wall).

The place which seems to me the most judicious where to place the fastener is at the right of a floor.
