Geothermal power plant

by catouni » 09/06/07, 18:56

Hello everybody
Could someone explain to me how the Svartsengi geothermal power plant works in Iceland. From what I understand, cold water under pressure is injected into a well. On contact with the hot rock, it turns into steam which emerges through a second well. This steam is used to power the turbines and electric generators of the plant.
Is it right?
On the other hand, what is the use of the artificial lake at the power station where people come to bathe? Where does the hot water in it come from?
Thank you beforehand
