I did not find much of it, but the principle is the same as for a rotating machine: you move a magnetic flux in a coil (or a coil in a magnetic flux).

The advantage is that with an alternantive machine, you no longer have to convert a translational movement into rotation: no connecting rod, no crank shaft, ... happiness.

Bonjour.

A linear electric generator. What are the applications of this kind of stuff?

waw I've never seen this kind of engine ... What's the return (basically?)?

Hello,
The stirlings have exceptional yields, up to 70% if my memories are good.

This is not because we always said that it is impossible that we should not try :)

Hello,
When we talk about performance, it is better to define what performance we are talking about!

Stirling-based systems are an excellent performer because they are usually cogeneration systems (electricity and heat production). The yields announced concern this global production. The yield for electricity production is related to the mechanical efficiency (itself limited by the yield of Carnot). In practice, the mechanical efficiency of stirling revolves around 30-40%. The heat is recovered at the exhaust gas (combustion and / or internal gas) with an exchanger to be used in a heat network, to heat water, ...

It is therefore this heat recovery that allows to obtain an overall yield of 70% or even better I believe!

Incidentally, if we recovered the heat of the internal combustion engines to use it, we would go from a mechanical efficiency of 20-30% to an overall efficiency (mechanical + heat) of 60-70% or +.
This is done in gas cogeneration systems based on internal combustion engines. For car engines, it's harder to value the heat of the engine !!

Theoretical yield of the cycle:

R = 1 - Cold / Hot

NB: the temperatures T are expressed in Kelvin (add 273 ° to the temperature Celsius)

The yields are all the higher as the difference in temperature is important.

look at the flashlights to shake, there is a dedan. go on it for your study.
I studied system for self-charging speleo lamps by putting the generator to the feet.
I stopped before making a proto.
In your case, it can work well, because the frequency of vibration is higher
