Windmill production with auto alternator?

by val.du.12@hotmail.fr » 10/06/11, 17:51

Hello I wish to create a small wind turbine with car alternator 25 A. I have questions:
Or connect the battery (photo if join)?
What should you do better:

Rewinding the alternator (I do not know a lot of knowledge) and in addition it is losing a lot of power.

Or do a multiplication of the speed (ex with an inch 16 bike wheel and a belt)
Which diameter of the blades (3) is necessary to be largely sufficient for the alternator, 2 m suffi ??

Thank you and do not hesitate to answer to give ideas

Ah "not bad" the shot of the 3000 px image uploaded on a forum...

For the following stp use our image hosting with automatic resizing ...

For your question it is not too advisable to use car alternators because their performance is quite low (50 / 60%) and their high starting speed (even with a gear ratio).

Uses the search engine; https://www.econologie.com/forums/search.php

Looping has rewound one, explanations and performances here:

the car alternator does not have the best performance but it works and is not expensive

the problem is elsewhere: in a car alternator there is 3 thing in the same box: alternator three-phase, bridge rectifier graetz to make the DC, electronic controller to load a battery 12V

it is the regulator that is not suitable at all to a wind turbine: this regulator seeks to charge the battery that costs regardless of the speed of the engine, if it slows the regulator increases the excitement to keep the power by increasing the couple ... it's good on a gasoline engine that has plenty of power

on a wind turbine is the disaster! when the wind turbine slows the regulator increases the torque until it stall

to use a car alternator, you have to eliminate the built-in regulator and settle for a reostat that sends a constant current of excitation ... or to make a special electronic regulator

it is obviously a multiplication of speed because it is worth nothing at too low speed ... there is only q'avec permanent magnet that direct training is possible

Hello and thank you I can change my mind I think to make a vertical wind turbine with an iron can of 200 l cut in 4.
If I get there I'll do a wind turbine at a constant speed.

Hello can you tell me or plug my battery to do my test. Should there be several circuits (ex: 1 for exitation 1 to charge the battery 1 to use the juice without going through the battery ....) and where is the electronic regulator to charge the battery ?????? (see photo above)
thank you

Learn a minimum of electrical and electronic knowledge (on google by spending time there) and realize simpler things before, otherwise you will galore and grill components by misunderstanding the basics !!

the electronic regulator is in the alternator ... to understand it is necessary to dismount

Look on a car that runs the connection of this alternator to know the connections, terminals + and - (sometimes marked on the alternator) and know where are the other son!

It's a bit of a detective job.

Alternators are not all the same, especially over decades!

By turning quickly (at least 1000t / min = 16tours / s and about 300W = 12Vx25A more than a cyclist at his max of the tour de France), we can measure the tensions and know a little + at least the terminal.

Finally, by disassembling carefully and with a mini of knowledge, we can see the functions and know.

Finally ask an old mechanic what he knows from experience, if he saw the alternator!

It would be nice to read (or at least click on it ...) the links given to you above: https://www.econologie.com/forums/comment-br ... t7958.html
