Jean ANDREAU 1890 vacuum & aerodynamic wind turbine

by Pascal HA PHAM » 01/06/11, 12:20

A new double subject for interesting which will be studied soon by Nicolas ANDREAU, great grandson of the inventor Jean ANDREAU (1890 1953):

- vacuum wind turbine
- vehicle aerodynamics

link to the technical site managed by Nicolas with a very beautiful and authentic INA video dating from 1957 (mounting of a vacuum machine 24 meters in diameter in Algeria)

So see you soon.

What determination this family!

Very interesting Pascal,

It shows once again that many forgotten technologies could be very useful to us.

Jean ANDREAU and the automobile body

by Pascal HA PHAM » 06/06/11, 10:01

Hello,
what surprises:

Image

In the magnificent François VANARET site, we learn that Jean ANDREAU has also worked in aerodynamics: car bodies.

Tribute to Jean ANDREAU:

Thanks to François VANARET, author of this very beautiful site where these two photos come from.

Come on Nicolas! a little word !

Hello Pascal, and to the Andreau family,

I allow myself to publish a schematic diagram so that we better understand the original principle of this wind turbine: the rotor is used as a centrifugal suction pump, the air flow sucked back up by the mast, whose base is equipped with '' a turbine producing mechanical work.

According to the Authors:
Image
The principle of its operation is as follows: the blades are hollow and open at their ends. When the wind carries them, the centrifugal force expels the air they contain which gives rise to a suction. This suction creates an air flow inside the wind turbine, from bottom to top.

The energy of this flow is collected by a small air turbine housed in the mast, at the foot of the wind turbine. This turbine is a single wheel provided with blades. The axis of the turbine leaves the mast, so that any rotating machine is connected to it:

The structural interest is attractive: a lighter pylon, thanks to a center of gravity located at the bottom, better rigidity of the pylon which would consist of a double tube, lighter foundations, easier maintenance, all at the cost of a waterproof rotary joint (but I suppose that it should not be the sea to drink, otherwise we would not be doing submarines for a long time).

But what about the yield: energy harvested / price and size? )

It looks like very high solar towers exploiting the temperature difference to make the aspiration, except that there it is the stronger wind at altitude which by venturi effect creates an aspiration. Less high towers, material on the ground, but the suction distance must make that the yield compared to the surface of the venturi must be lower than a traditional wind turbine.

On the animation, I like the drift, which allows to orient the wind turbine facing the wind : Cheesy:

So if I understood everything correctly, there would be two possibilities of electric production (one by the axis of the propeller of the wind turbine + the other by the air flow making turn the turbine) instead of one with a conventional wind turbine, right?

Hello everybody

Not a single possibility of recovering energy,
on the axis of the vacuum turbine in the base of the pylon.
We recover a mechanical torque that can be used directly, to run a water pump for example.
or to motivate an alternator another example.

prototype southwest of TOULOUSE

by Pascal HA PHAM » 07/06/11, 07:36

Hello,

I hope that Nicolas ANDREAU will soon answer your questions.
Nicolas is a super aero engineer and, at the end of his studies, he took up the torch concerning the invention of his great grandfather Jean.

Currently he is working on a major prototype located south east of TOULOUSE.

while waiting for the continuation, here is also one of the beautiful aerodynamic achievements of Jean ANDREAU in the 30s:

yes definitely "what a family!" ... bravo

PS: very complete technical site on the CX of vehicles "from bike to truck" through the hyper vehicles of the schell marathon + a very interesting article / report from NASA concerning the axes of improvement of the Cxp of trucks

Hello,

nothing to say about the principle of the wind turbine depression except that it pleases me a lot :) , however on the car side : Shock: : Shock: : Shock: I say OUAHHAAA that is cash.

When we see what we are doing now arfff, long live the curves :) .

This is a nice little tribute to the memory that begins here, so thank you to the Andreau family for passing the time to show us another possible one.
And full of success for the future.

see you
