Definition according to: http://fr.ekopedia.org/Earthship
"The Earthships are homes invented by the American architect Mickael Reynolds in the 70s with the prospect of creating fully autonomous homes at a lower cost.
To achieve his goals, Mickael Reynolds relied on:
- recovery of materials (used tires, cans, glass bottles, scrap wood ...),
- energy production using solar panels, wind turbines or other renewable energy sources,
- an orientation to the south,
- a massive insulating wall construction,
- recovery and purification of rainwater.
Since the ultimate goal of Earthships is self-sufficiency, one can also find dry toilets, and other facilities, to recycle human waste to make the sewer connection unnecessary. "
Like what, almost nothing has been invented with the "green" wave of recent years ...
Here is a little bio of the architect in question (he is old but still alive): http://bit.ly/15lXX
