These radishes were pulled this afternoon.
They stay in the ground under a thick cover of dead leaves.
They are excellent, full of juice, not spicy.
I cultivate several varieties and will present them to you as we go.

Hi,
You seem to have a soil well endowed with humus and to have a winter not too harsh.
What region ?
What kind of soil?
What contributions to the soil?

When I left my vegetable garden, it was a long time ago, there was a meadow with poor soil where thyme, trefoil, piloselle, etc.
By dint of covering the earth with different mulches, including hay, the humus gradually appeared.
It has known, and I too, in the past, temperatures of - 20 ° C.
It is located in southern Alsace, between Vosges and the Swiss Jura, facing south.
The earth is clayey, heavy and acidic and receives only hay covers, grass clippings, dead leaves, compost, a little limestone, it depends on the plots, never straw or BRF.

Ok, thank you, it was still less cold this year at the top of France, I only had 2 nights or it went down to -4. My unstopped artichokes have not suffered.

It's true that Chinese-style winter radishes can be big. I did not pass them this year. Sown too early and then I have not yet protected my garden from European rabbits, voles, pigeons. Cabbages, I try even more, we see them all year round.

I have beautiful leeks, the rabbits haven't touched them, but I will have to protect them from the leafminer for the next few years. the whites are quite streaked by the galleries, but I was able to recover some anyway with a little more cleaning work.
Yours look good in bed.

At least you have that chance. :P

This year 2020 I had cauliflower seeds. Sown in my greenhouse, they had risen well. As a result, in the spring I transplanted some in the ground. It didn't take 2 days for everything to go away.
I had one foot left in the greenhouse which had started well. One fine day: no more leaves, with more caterpillars. Nothing open however, except a window with automatic opening, but inside a mesh of 1 cm.
When the hot weather comes, the door is open, but the opening is also blocked by a wire mesh.

The leaves grew back and he ended up making a ridiculous flower ... he ended up in a soup anyway. : Wink:
I had a lot of work this year, the garden has taken a back seat.
With the little frost, I still harvest beautiful chard leaves.

My Brussels sprouts are sheltered from snow and cold.
Fortunately, the plants have stakes
