A European petition against GMOs

Help build a Europe without GMOs

The October 25, European Commissioner for the Environment, Stavros Dimas, has courageously opposed the big agribusiness companies - refusing to allow the cultivation of two varieties of genetically modified maize (Bt11 and 1507).

But the agrochemical companies that grow these genetically engineered seeds have powerful allies. It is possible that the unprecedented decision of Commissioner Dimas will be reversed at the next meeting of the European Commission.

A powerful public protest is needed to get the Commission to put the health of its citizens ahead of the economic interests of two chemical companies.

You can help by sending this message to Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission, and Commissioners Dimas, Vassiliou (consumers), Fischer-Boel (agriculture) and Barrot (transport).

It always made me "laugh" (yellow) petitions on the net that ask for emails ...while a single click would be enough to count a vote via the IP of the user : Cheesy: :| :frown:

Already signed but record to follow closely.
It would be nice for savvy consumers to make their own GMO embargo while putting pressure on Bxl.

greenpeace wrote:Brussels, Belgium - 18 products containing flaxseed have been tested by a specialized laboratory on behalf of Greenpeace. The presence of illegal transgenic flaxseed was found in a package of Dark Bread All-In Mix 9 Soubry Cereal, purchased late December at Delhaize. Transgenic flax seeds are not allowed in Europe, nor for cultivation or import. Greenpeace has informed Soubry and Delhaize of the detected contamination and is waiting for the contaminated products to be removed from the shelves. Measures must be taken to ensure that consumers are no longer forced to consume GMOs (genetically modified organisms) without their knowledge. Similar genetic contamination has been documented in a dozen European countries.

Go see the small traders in your neighborhood and be curious. If you are kind, they will answer you. Ask to see the brand of flour, ... Once reassured, if so, thank him by becoming a loyal customer and encourage him to continue in this way. Talk about it around you. Let simmer and serve cold. : Mrgreen:

Somewhere in China, because of pesticides, there is no longer a bee. In the face of farmer protests, the Chinese government told them he had only to polish by hand. They tried it and it's obviously a failure.
Nevertheless, it proves that in China too, the prerogatives of the public power do not respond properly to the needs of Chinese society since neither money nor labor seems to be able to solve this problem.
