search engine improvement

by Christophe » 13/03/13, 02:01

The search engine internal to the site and forum has been improved:

- better presentation with for many results a preview image
- now allows to make image searches (very useful to find a diagram or montage on the forums)
- establishment of a research form on the forum above the last active subjects
- search page: search.php

If you have any suggestions or opinions ...

An additional option would be to be able to search on a single discussion because when there are many pages it is not easy to find an info.

I redirected the "Search" link at the top of forums toward https://www.econologie.com/forums/search.php
because the results of the internal engine via google are more and more random ... for example some topics are not at all indexes ...

This engine remains accessible via the "Google personal search" form at the top.

New developments in Google's internal search engine for links AND images.

The images and search results are more readable and there is the possibility of sorting the results by relevance or date.

(a) the integrated one on forums is here: search.php (or by using the form at the top right)

b) the one integrated into the site is here: https://www.econologie.com/search_gcse/

The results of 2 links are strictly identical ...

Tested, it works well.
Recently I was using Quant, a French search engine? It was enough to install an extension https://www.qwant.com/

I returned to Google because of lack of results, thanks to this test. : Wink:

You mean you used Quant to do internal research on the forum? Ok ok :)

Otherwise I find that the Google one still has a lot of latency ... for example, a search on "Irma" did not point until yesterday on the subject dedicated to the hurricanes of the moment ... while it dates from the 8th September...

On the other hand, if we came across the homepage of forums because "Irma" appears in the list of the last active subjects. Which means that Google spotted it ... but only indexed it on the home page ...

I do not understand why this latency ...

In short you will not find a new subject (less than 10 days) via Google's internal search engine.

It is then necessary to use the 2ieme part of this page of research: search.php
