Clone a system hard drive to Crucial MX500 SSD (review, test ...)?

My 1 Segate Momentus 2014TB system drive is approaching 15h ... it's getting old and I just invested in a Crutial MX000 500TB SSD.
Prices have now become reasonable on large capacity SSDs (100 € per TB).
To start, here is the comparative performance on CrystalDiskMark:
Seagate Momentus 1TB ST1000LM024 from 2014 internally connected SATA:
MX500 Crucial CT1000MX500 from 2021 connected to USB 2.0 port (3.0 box):
For information, here is the performance of my 2nd internal hybrid SSHD drive (8 GB SSD):
Seagate FireCuda 2TB ST2000LX001 from 2018 connected to the 2nd internal SATA port:
Well that's clear, even plugged into an "old" external USB 2.0 port from 2014 ...the MX500 sends heavy! In particular in randomized write of small files.
In internal SATA this should perform a little better!
In short, this is the main question of the subject: I would like to clone my system disk to this SSD ...
There are plenty of tutorials on the net but most of them try to sell their software ... I'm not necessarily looking for free (I bought HD Sentinel for example ...) but paying for an almost one-time-use software is m 'annoys a bit!
So here's who's been using what? Who advises what?
I have seen that some people do not recommend cloning. Rather, to redo a clean installation with backups because it may have hardware compatibility problems ...
So a new installation will necessarily be cleaner (I don't have so much to reinstall but it will be even more painful than a working cloning) so I would like to try the cloning too because it's my very first time!
