Of course, water + H2S is corrosive: it forms sulphurous acid, H2SO3, I think. I can hardly imagine the effect in the cylinders.
The drying of the methane (which is done exactly as in the compressed air dryers that I sold in 2008) seems useful to me, in particular to ensure the efficiency of the activated carbon filters, under penalty of "muddy" clogging.
