How to repair a generator please?

by jpdc1991 » 15/11/09, 18:22

Hello,
I tried to repair a generator of a friend
On the type plate, it is marked 400v-230v.
I know that this group delivers two possible voltages 400v and 230v, by turning a wheel from left to right to choose the voltage.
By dismounting the connection plate, I saw that the capacitor was inflated, not to say exploded lol
On the capacitor, it is indicated 5 micropharad and a voltage of 230-400v.
I ordered this piece and replaced it, as it was originally ...
By starting the group, no voltage was coming out of the power outlets, both on 230 and 400v
Or could you find the problem after you please?
thank you in advance for your help 8)

Good evening jpdc1991!

You have pictures or model, because the generators do not all work the same.

Unfortunately I do not have photos on hand : Cheesy:
I know this is a group that produces 230 or 400v.
It is a wheel that must slide from left to right, to vary the tension. : Idea:
I was told that it could be a permanent capacitor or not.
How can we know the difference between this permanent and non permanent? :?:

It works on 1 phase or three phases?

How many wires are coming out of the generator?

It is a generator that uses a permanent capacitor given the capacity of the 5uf condo.

Check if the windings are open with an ohmmeter.

I have two wires coming out of the engine, On this group there are two power outlets that are used to power a basket.
The first time I repaired it, I did not encounter any problem 8)
At each socket there was 230v in turtle position and 400v in hare position.
But this time though, I have 50v to take : Shock:

we must say more we have no crystal ball ...

it's not the capacitor that's permanent or not

for an asynchronous motor we say permanent capacitor when it is permanently connected!

it is said demarage capacitor when it is disconnected by a centrifugal contact once the engine starts: the demarage capacitor are often electrolytic of high value: more than 100μF

the autoregulated generator set capacitor of 2kw is approximately 60μF and resembles asynchronous motor capacitor

but the three-phase alternator are not capacitor autoregulated

and 5μF it's too small

so give precisions

unless your 400v is single-phase

380v or 400v is not synonymous with three-phase ...

As I just mentioned here above, the 2 (mono) jacks are powered by 230v or 400v depending on the selection of the wheel, tortoise or hare : Wink:

Can you give us a little diagrams of the connection?

The knob is used to vary the speed of the motor or to change the electrical connection?
:?

I do not have this group at home, but at a friend's house : Lol:
The wheel is used to vary the speed of the motor, to have more tension : Wink:
On the hare position I had 400v struggling, in tortoise position 230v.

What is the capacity in watts or what is the output amperage?

A small electrical diagram of how is connected the capacitor would be required to help you because we are immersed in the theoretical until now!
