Hello,
This morning, on ARTE, I saw a report on the Z machine.
Impressive, very large means to reproduce a star in miniature.
I hope their experiences are not dangerous

When was this show dated?
What do you learn there that we don't know?
Because personally I haven't had anything new for two years.
And the Sandia lab no longer publishes anything it seems.
The last publication dates from March 2009 on their website

Magnetic necking operated by conventional explosives produces enough heat to detonate an H-bomb. It is much more practical and cheaper than using an A-bomb as a match. This is probably why Sandia Labs' research is covered by military secrecy and that nothing filters. To my knowledge, the only news is that the ZR Machine produced 8 billion degrees.

The technical challenge is nevertheless difficult to "miniaturize" the magnetic necking, namely to house it in a bomb.
But you can generate very successful magnetic compressions with conventional explosives.
So...
I'm not an expert on the subject,
It seems to me that they said in this report "military applications impossible" ... I said to myself "ha good!"
And the question of compression is the problem, in the sense that this compression must be equal everywhere, which is not the case at present.

If I understand correctly, we can watch this show next Tuesday at 13:25 p.m.
One can also find first-hand information on the site of JP PETIT who personally knows a certain number of researchers working in the field of Z-Pinch.
Let us recall that the real problem of hydrogen-boron fusion power stations is that there are no credits allocated to this technology which does not however present theoretical difficulties, while colossal sums are wasted for ITER and MEGAJOULES, of which knows that they cannot succeed.
