As you are in a region very favorable for solar, put some panels on your land and you will see that you will pay much less nuke.

I think about it more and more seriously, especially since there are panels that swing directly from 220 / 230V.
Having said that, panels or no panels, I (we are going) will indirectly continue raiding for Flamanville, Hinckley, La Hague, dismantling, burying, maintenance, "upgrading" wrecks, etc., etc. . You talk about "clean and low cost" energy :(

Nuclear: Orano forecasts a resumption of its growth after declining results in 2020

AFP published on 26 Feb 2021

The nuclear group Orano expects a return to growth this year after unveiling lower results on Friday under the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The company recorded a net loss of 70 million euros last year compared to a net profit of 408 million a year earlier, it said in a statement. This result is however marked by "a lower return on assets dedicated to cover end-of-cycle bonds in 2020 after a very significant performance on the financial markets in 2019".

The return on these assets dedicated to future dismantling always changes significantly from one year to the next. Excluding this accounting item in particular, the adjusted net loss showed an improvement to € 91 million in 2020, compared to a loss of € 145 million in 2019.

Turnover was down 2,7% to 3,684 billion euros, in accordance with the latest forecasts, "due to production stoppages and postponements of activity, linked to the pandemic". For this year, Orano expects a resumption of revenue growth as well as a maintenance of positive net cash flow. "These prospects remain dependent on the evolution of the pandemic in France and in the countries where the group operates", warns Orano, however. For the time being, only mining activities in Canada are still significantly penalized by the pandemic.

The forecasts also do not take into account any good news: the Chinese used fuel treatment and recycling plant project, a giant contract still under negotiation.

The group, resulting from the restructuring of the former Areva, specializes in the nuclear fuel cycle: mines, uranium enrichment, recycling of spent fuel but also logistics, dismantling and engineering.

The Russians want to build a fast neutron reactor, liquid lead cooling, 300 MW of power.

Construction license issued for Russia's BREST reactor
11 February 2021

A license has been issued by the Russian nuclear regulator Rostechnadzor to the Siberian Chemical Combine for the construction of the BREST-OD-300 reactor at its site in Seversk, Russia. It will be the world's first experimental demonstration power unit featuring a lead-cooled fast neutron reactor.

If you are fed up with arguing about nuclear power, I suggest THE method to move forward with your interlocutor whether you are pro or anti nuclear.

Poland is moving towards nuclear power:

Poland to pinpoint nuclear plant location next year

(PAP) JD / EJ / MRB FEBRUARY 26, 2021

Poland is planning to select the technology for its first nuclear power plant (NPP) in 2021 and to choose its location in 2022, the climate minister has announced.

Speaking to the Polska Times.pl daily, Michał Kurtyka said "We're planning to launch six nuclear units between 2033 and 2043."

He also stated that the Polish Baltic coast is "quite a natural choice" as the location of NPP.

He stressed that some 20 nuclear units are located within 300 km of Poland, and Europe has a total of 107 of them. “After the first amortization period, they produce very cheap and reliable energy,” Kurtyka said.

"We can see in the polls that support for this type of energy source is growing," he added. "Currently over 60 percent of Poles believe that nuclear energy should be a part of our energy mix."

Turkey: Erdogan and Putin mark progress on Russian power plant project

AFP published on March 10, 2021

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Wednesday celebrated an important milestone in the construction of a Russian nuclear power plant in Turkey, pledging to strengthen their cooperation which displeases Washington.

During a videoconference ceremony, the two leaders officially launched the construction of the third of the four reactors at the Akkuyu plant in southern Turkey.

This plant, built by the Russian nuclear giant Rosatom, is due to start operating in 2023, the centenary of the Republic of Turkey.

"This gigantic project is one of the symbols of Russian-Turkish cooperation," Erdogan said. "We share with Mr. Putin the same desire to deepen this cooperation," he added.

Mr. Putin said he wanted this project "to help promote the Turkish-Russian partnership in all its facets and strengthen friendship as well as mutual understanding between the peoples of our countries".

Despite differences over the conflicts in Libya and Syria, where they support opposing camps, Moscow and Ankara have come together considerably in recent years, to the point of irritating the Western allies of NATO member Turkey.

Thus, the purchase by Turkey of Russian missiles, the S-400, caused a crisis with the United States which still lasts.

The construction of the Akkuyu power station, the cost of which is estimated at some 20 billion dollars, has become a symbol of the warming of these relations.

The two presidents had also launched its construction in 2018 during a ceremony with great pomp, turning the page on a serious diplomatic crisis between Ankara and Moscow caused by the destruction of a Russian plane by the Turkish army.

According to Mr. Erdogan, this plant should eventually meet 10% of the electricity demand of Turkey, a country heavily dependent on the import of hydrocarbons to satisfy a growing appetite for energy.

The two countries are also engaged in the construction of the TurkStream gas pipeline which will allow Russia to bypass Ukraine, via the Black Sea and Turkey, to export its gas to Europe.

Some people turn off nuclear power to rekindle coal and gas, others understand.
https://www.sfen.org/rgn/chine-mise-ser ... nees-venir
This 14th plan, officially released on Friday March 12, 2021, traces the road for China for the next five years in all areas: agriculture, environment, industry, technologies, politics, etc. Regarding nuclear energy, it is clear that this Plan is not lacking in ambition. It stipulates that China must: "actively and orderly build seaside generation III nuclear power plants" until it has "a nuclear capacity in service which will reach 70 GW". In the next 5 years, this will therefore represent an additional 19 GW connected to the grid, or around 4 plants put into service per year during the next 5 years.
