And 90 ha of forest were razed. And it's just phase 1.

Tesla has finished clearing trees at Giga Berlin site

Jameson Dow - Feb. 29th 2020

After about two total weeks of work, the forest of planted trees on Tesla's Giga Berlin site is now gone. Tesla finished “phase 1” of their forest clearance project this week, just before their early March deadline.

Image

Tesla was in a hurry to finish clearing this forest before March because that's when the mating season begins for birds, after which trees are not allowed to be cut until birds have left their nests. If Tesla didn't finish by March, they'd have had to wait months to continue clearing, setting their project back by months. Tesla is on a tight deadline to get the gigafactory up and running by mid-2021, and a delay of several months would ruin that schedule.

And it seems they've pulled it off, and just in time.

In the wider shots, all of “phase 1” looks to have been cleared. The total area of phase 1 is about 90 hectares. Tesla has an additional 63 hectares to clear in “phase 1B,” which will happen at a later date.

Phase 1 corresponds to the area around the first of four buildings Tesla plans to build, and also employee parking and access roads around the building. Phase 1B covers access roads and a railyard for shipping cars. Other facilities, including a building for cell manufacturing, will be handled later.

ENEDIS TARGETS 100 TERMINALS FOR VE CONNECTED TO THE NETWORK IN 000

The new boss of Enedis Marianne Laigneau is preparing the development of renewable energies and electric vehicles. The EDF subsidiary, which controls 95% of the electricity distribution networks in France, is currently investing “between 3,5 and 4 billion euros per year” to modernize the electricity distribution networks. It now plans to invest 69 billion between 2019 and 2035, or 4,3 billion euros per year, says Ms. Laigneau. Without charging stations, no electric vehicle. Enedis is therefore targeting 100 terminals connected to the network in 000, compared to nearly 2022 today. This will charge approximately one million electric vehicles. In particular, the company helps communities to determine the most appropriate place to install charging stations. "After we pull cables" to connect these terminals to the network, explains the new manager.

With this new platform, General Motors electric vehicles will be able to travel more than 640 km in one charge

RÉMI AMALVY Usine Nouvelle 05/03/2020

As part of its new electric vehicle strategy, General Motors introduced a new platform with a large capacity battery. The Ultium should allow a range of more than 640 km in one charge. All future zero emission vehicles of the group must be equipped with them.

Image

General Motors (GM) has unveiled a new platform combining a powertrain and a high-capacity battery, for future vehicles that can exceed 640 km of range on a single charge. Called Ultium, the technology was presented on March 4 at a conference. It is the third generation platform for electric vehicles developed by the American group.

This modular platform can be declined in 19 different architectures, the batteries being placed horizontally (in the floor) or vertically according to the needs of the different brands of the group. The capacity of the Ultium will vary from 50 to 200 kWh, which could allow "a range estimated by GM of 400 miles (644 km) or more at full load with an acceleration of 0 to 60 mph (0 to 100 km) in only 3 seconds ".

Support for fast charging up to 200 kW

Battery powered vehicles will support fast charging up to 200 kW. The load on the trucks can go up to 350 kW. All can be offered in front, rear or all-wheel drive.

General Motor also announced to partner with LG Chem to "lower the cost of batteries below $ 100 / kWh", in particular thanks to cells with a low cobalt content. To reduce costs, the group also wants to adapt its current production chain to electricity, rather than setting up a new one. All the same, 20 billion dollars (18 billion euros) must be invested over the next five years, notably in the new battery manufacturing plant in Lordstown (Ohio).

Targeted profitability from the first generation of new vehicles

Citing "third-party forecasters", GM expects the number of electric vehicles sold in the United States to double between 2025 and 2030, reaching 3 million units in 2030. The group expects to achieve profitability from the next generation. vehicles.

General Motors' four brands, Chevrolet, Cadillac, GMC and Buick, are all planning to launch an electric vehicle. For example, a new version of the Chevrolet Bolt will land at the dealership by the end of 2020. The iconic Hummer from GMC will also be available in a zero emission version. The official announcement is scheduled for May 20.

[Picture of the day] Tesla celebrates the production of its millionth vehicle

SYLVAIN ARNULF Usine Nouvelle on 10/03/2020

The American car manufacturer Tesla celebrated the manufacture of its millionth vehicle on March 9. Its production capacities are constantly increasing in the United States and China, pending the opening of the first European Gigafactory in Berlin.

Are Tesla's production problems ancient history? The American car manufacturer led by Elon Musk has in any case crossed the symbolic milestone of one million vehicles produced on March 9, 2020, twelve years after the manufacture of the first model. The event was celebrated in its historic factory in Fremont, in the United States.

Image

While Tesla, at its beginnings, was a modest craftsman, with approximately a thousand roadsters produced in 2008 and 2009, it did not stop investing in its production tool to meet the growing demand. In 2010, he bought a former GM factory in Fremont (California), enlarged and transformed it to prepare the production of his Model S, launched in June 2012.

640 vehicles produced per year

Tesla now claims to be able to produce 400 Model 000 and Model Y (whose manufacture began in January 3) per year at its Fremont plant, as well as 2020 Model S and Model X. The Shanghai plant, in China is to produce 90 Model 000 for its first year of existence, but this plan could be disrupted by the coronavirus epidemic. A factory is also under construction in Berlin. At the current rate, the mark of two million vehicles produced could be reached in 150.

The conversion of thermal cars into electrics now authorized in France

AFP, published on Friday 03 April 2020 at 18 p.m.

Replacing the petrol or diesel engine of used cars with an electric motor will now be authorized in France after the publication on Friday of a ministerial decree setting the regulatory framework for this transformation considered to be beneficial to the environment.

According to the text published in the Official Journal, thermal vehicles over five years old (cars, utility vehicles, trucks, buses and coaches), as well as two and three-wheel motor vehicles over three years old, may be subject to a conversion to electric or "retrofit". To be approved, vehicles must have been transformed by an authorized professional in compliance with the conditions set by the legislator.

This regulation was demanded by professionals in the automotive sector who praise its ecological interest: the adaptation of existing vehicles extends their life rather than creating new waste. These vehicles also comply with the strictest emission regulations.

Companies, gathered within the AIRe (Actors of the electric retrofit industry), estimated that 66.000 vehicles could be thus adapted within five years in France. They expect a turnover of one billion euros, and the creation of 5.500 jobs.

Okay, that should be pretty anecdotal.

Electric car: more than 5.000 registrations in March despite the pandemic

Michaël TORREGROSSA 1 Apr 2020

With 5511 registrations registered during a month marked by the coronavirus crisis, the electric car represented 8,8% of the new vehicle market. A record!

With 62.668 registrations registered in the passenger car segment, the French automobile market is going through one of the worst months in its history. While most deliveries have stopped since March 16, the date of the start of containment in France, the market recorded more than 70% decline compared to March 2019.

All energies are impacted and the electric is no exception. After two months above 9.000 registrations, the electric car only had 5.511 registrations in March but compensated with a record penetration rate of 8,8%. A figure that could be explained both by the general acceleration of deliveries in the face of the change in the bonus, initially scheduled for March 31 for the vehicles ordered in 2019, but also by the excellent results of Tesla and its Model 3.

According to data provided by the CCFA, the California sedan totaled 1385 registrations in the past month, representing 25% of all electric cars registered in the period. On this March reduced by half, the Renault ZOE also manages to save the furniture. With 1744 registrations registered, the Renault city car has a 32% market share.
